Top man is moving to Brum! Brum University has more Dosh, so would be able to put out a competitive team!!!

Hi all. As I've seen daft questions threads in other sport's forums, and as I'm new to this sport, I thought I'd start one here, if thats ok? To kick us off then, can a club hire or fire a player at any time in the season? Do they have set contract lengths? Cheers, James. You're welcome to start this thread or any other you fancy

Ok Next daft question If a player takes a shot that hits the rim etc or backboard and another player then jumps and dunks it in Is the initial missed shot now treated as an assist If so is it no longer a missed field goal attempt? Or can you have a missed field goal attempt that is also an assist? That would be a missed shot, offensive rebound and shot made. No assist can be given as it was a shot attempt. If the ball was deliberately bounced off the backboard for a trailing player to score from, then an assist would be given.

In the Elite League (top level Ice Hockey) the teams play a season of 56 league games plus cup, so over 60 in total. Why does the BBL play so little games? I'm not suggesting we go NBA numbers but another 15-20 games a season could easily be possible and create additional revenue for teams.

Venue availability (and the attached cost) ... possibly ? If the BBL league ever expands up to 16 teams, it could well happen ! 60 games ... We can only hope

If you add so many games it waters the league down and games are far less interesting

Wow rammie is back good to see you dude. The demographic of your average bbl fan - family sport/glorified crèche - means midweek games struggle to attract crowds. Venue availability at weekends means we're not far off the maximum realistic number. About 16 years ago we had a 40 game leagu6season plus 4 Trophy group games and cup & playoffs. It was hard going. Personally I'm amazed just how many fights (sorry, games) ice hockey teams play

2 games home and away (4 in total ) plus cup and trophy games would be good.
Not a big fan of 2 away and one at home and vice versa but never known it any other way.
For instance Sharks play both Eagles and Riders away twice this season and just the once at home.
Next season we'll entertain them both twice at the EIS ( or new venue if it gets built by then...) Playing them away just the once.

I'm not a big fan of the uneven split of three games across home and away venues either. I wouldn't mind a double-home-and-away format, but on balance I'd rather see more games come through a bigger league than just repeating the same fixtures more often. (How likely that is though, is a whole other discussion...)
My own daft question delves into NBL territory - why do Cardiff Archers, Cardiff City and RCT Gladiators play in the lower reaches of the English league? Wouldn't it be cheaper (in travel costs, etc) to have a Welsh national league, with some teams drawn from the existing Welsh regional leagues?

I like this thread....probably got several ‘daft’ Qs myself.
Why did Jordan Davis leave the court last night (Fly v Eag)? Someone said two deliberate fouls?
I do know now that the click doesn’t start ticking until the inbound pass is collected.
And a real basic one....does the foul count reset every quarter?

Here's one where do clubs find there players like for example raiders how did gavin identify joonas or Leicester find Leonard in Luxembourg or find all there rookies from college im guessing for example im guessing Manchester giants would watch many Tampa uni games!!

Foul count resets for team fouls but not individual fouls

I think a lot of the signings come from agent videos

New rules this season, two unsportsmanlike fouls or two technical fouls or combination of both on a player means an automatic ejection from the game (regardless of how many personal fouls they already have). This means they have to physically leave the bench (and hall?). There's no such thing as a 'deliberate' foul, if in the referee's opinion there is no play for the ball, then it's an unsportsmanlike foul.

What sort of salary can the players earn in BBL?? Never heard or read a figure. Players like Rahmon Fletcher and previously Sullivan both great player but stayed in BBL for few years (Fletch) and most of his career (Sullivan) but surely they could of earned loads more in Europe? Obviously I know lifestype and culture etc come in to playing abroad too

The benefits of the bbl usually far outweigh a few extra pounds a week to English speaking players

Thanks Hersey. I never really left but after Derby disappeared I couldnt bring myself to support anyone else. Since uni (11 years ago now) I have refereed but not had any desire to step up to National League. This gives me my fix.
The Elite League have just attracted Guildford and MK to the top league and both are doing well. Manchester came in two years ago (although Hull left) so they have twelve teams in their top level. Obviously overheads are a lot higher (15-20 players and many play in arenas) but attendances are significantly higher (Nottingham, Sheffield, Belfast get 4-5000 a game and Cardiff and Braehead are 2000 plus. Their website is very professional and just feel that the BBL are falling behind.
More revenue could attract better players and in turn the knock on effect. Understand the dilution effect of a larger number of games and understand the challenges of venue availability (Although less of an issue now as more teams own). Anyway, that was just one thing that was bugging me.

I'm not sure if 2 home and 2 away games would increase revenue
I think the costs involved in going to away games in Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol and Plymouth etc are very high for the teams and each season they will be grateful of the times they only have to make the journey once
Imagine what Glasgow and Plymouths travel costs are like as it is?
Would fans pay more for season tickets if there were more games? Maybe but not much I think. And would the extra costs for hiring courts and staffing more midweek etc be recovered.
I'm not sure either.
It's not ideal playing 2 home and 1 away against each team but I guess we've just got used to it.
I guess one option to freshen things up could be more teams but just 1 home and 1 away game against each one

I like this thread! (When I joined the forum I asked a question and felt silly as I think it was something I should have known!
I'd like to see the 2 home / 2 away games - means more games which is a good thing- some teams don't play for a couple of weeks then have 2 in 2 days etc. Makes it a bit inconsistent (yep I know it's down to venues of course so not ideal)
Re. Salaries - don't suppose any of us know exactly but I'd guess £300pw to £2k a week?

This is a genuine question When an Eagles player inbounds the ball from under the hoop (to Nims for example) And he runs straight up court, ignores the rest of the team and stops to shoot 3pts (and it goes in) just for example Does the player who inbounds the ball get an assist for the initial pass into play? (If so I want a job at eagles as just by inbounding the ball I reckon I can get 3 or 4 assists a game) The answer here is it depends on if Nimley receives the ball in his own half or not. If he receives the ball in his own half there is no assist. If he catches it past the half-way line then there is an assist.
