I like this thread! (When I joined the forum I asked a question and felt silly as I think it was something I should have known! I'd like to see the 2 home / 2 away games - means more games which is a good thing- some teams don't play for a couple of weeks then have 2 in 2 days etc. Makes it a bit inconsistent (yep I know it's down to venues of course so not ideal) Re. Salaries - don't suppose any of us know exactly but I'd guess £300pw to £2k a week? I'd be very surprised if any BBL player is on anything close to £2000 a week... Rumours were raiders played two players 40k each but that at this is a rumour but i thought the pay was never great but that was made up for by car free accomidation ect ect i may be wrong!!

There's plenty of players not on 2k a month. 300-2000 is such a wide gap I dismissed it as another "look at me, I need to post something" comment

I'm going to suggest Justin Robinson will be one of the biggest earners in BBL
And that he won't be anywhere near 2k per week

I'm not sure if 2 home and 2 away games would increase revenue I think the costs involved in going to away games in Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol and Plymouth etc are very high for the teams and each season they will be grateful of the times they only have to make the journey once Imagine what Glasgow and Plymouths travel costs are like as it is? Would fans pay more for season tickets if there were more games? Maybe but not much I think. And would the extra costs for hiring courts and staffing more midweek etc be recovered. I'm not sure either. It's not ideal playing 2 home and 1 away against each team but I guess we've just got used to it. I guess one option to freshen things up could be more teams but just 1 home and 1 away game against each one Not sure what the ideal number of games would be but I suspect anything above 40 would have a negative impact. I'd be curious to know what number of league games there was in the old days.

I think it was 2002/3 when teams played 40 League games and 4 Trophy group games. In the mid to late 90s there was a period of stability with 36 League games and around 5 in the trophy with a best of three play off qf. That's as long as the BBL season has ever been.

Looks like most of the Estonians play in the Estonian League
And most arenas are small
So I doubt there's much money in that league and they would be cheap wage players?
So my daft question is
"Would the players who just played for Estonia and beat Team GB be top individual players in BBL or is it just that Team GB don't play well as a team?"

Joonas Jarvelainen might give an indication of that. Admittedly it's a small sample size!

Could be down to the coach and game plan/tactics IRF.

Could be down to the coach and game plan/tactics IRF. Maybe Rocks should consider appointing the Estonian Head Coach next time they've got a vacancy

So my daft question is "Would the players who just played for Estonia and beat Team GB be top individual players in BBL or is it just that Team GB don't play well as a team?" I think this question is really important and gets to the heart of the development of the game in UK. Probably deserves it's own thread! One of the areas to explore is our basketball culture. This influences our playing style and player development. I would say our culture / role model is an American one (in absence of any homegrown popular media coverage). NBA and even NCAA games / coaches are so much easier to follow than BBL and Europe. Estonia and the old Soviet Blok (and the Euroleague generally) have a different distinct basketball culture / heritage - different players and different playing style. Not saying one is better than the other, depends on your raw materials. As a junior coach I would say my biggest influence is NCAA / high school resources.

Wow rammie is back good to see you dude. The demographic of your average bbl fan - family sport/glorified crèche - means midweek games struggle to attract crowds. Venue availability at weekends means we're not far off the maximum realistic number. About 16 years ago we had a 40 game leagu6season plus 4 Trophy group games and cup & playoffs. It was hard going. Personally I'm amazed just how many fights (sorry, games) ice hockey teams play Not as much fighting now in the ice hockey as there was a few years ago. It's all calmed down a bit. Durham - Billingham "You want some then?" before face-off.
