Hi all. As I've seen daft questions threads in other sport's forums, and as I'm new to this sport, I thought I'd start one here, if thats ok?
To kick us off then, can a club hire or fire a player at any time in the season? Do they have set contract lengths?
Cheers, James.

I think most times they can pretty much fire at will Sometimes they will try to be loyal to a player who is injured etc if they can Good example was Anthony Rowe at riders I think who despite a bad knee injury riders honoured a 2 year deal. Think he ended up doing a lot of community stuff for the club when he couldn't train or play? Other examples will be players going home after a week if they don't cut it or get injured and don't have a relationship at the clubs

Nextly...a Newcastle specific question...Does Jamal Williams look a bit...erm...porky? In the few games i've been to there are a few players who wouldn't fit my idea of an athlete, but then they go and do spectacular stuff and I realise I'm wrong. Bristol and Plymouth fans, take a look....

Can fire when they want (some teams more willing than others to do so). Cannot hire after Feb 1st (possibly March 1st for injury replacements?) and there are some limits as to player numbers during a season but these are very rarely hit. Most players sign for a year, but 2 and even 3 year contracts do exist as do some shorter and week-to-week contracts either to cover injury or for players who(se agents) believe they will be offered better opportunities.

This is a genuine question
When an Eagles player inbounds the ball from under the hoop (to Nims for example)
And he runs straight up court, ignores the rest of the team and stops to shoot 3pts (and it goes in) just for example
Does the player who inbounds the ball get an assist for the initial pass into play?
(If so I want a job at eagles as just by inbounding the ball I reckon I can get 3 or 4 assists a game)

An example of someone who won't reach their potential because of their own attitude to training.

"He runs straight up court" implies to me that Nimley, in your example, created his own shot. I believe an assist has to provide the scoring player with a situation in which he scores straight away. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable than me, who knew where to look, could find a definition of "assist".

Just for the record when I did stats back when I was but a nipper, I was told that unless the passing player has released the ball for a fast break and there's a clear path, then a player will only get an assist if he passes to someone who then scores without bouncing the ball. Hope that helps.

NBA has always been a farce in this respect. Ncaa on the other hand are insanely strict on it....

FIBA have given lots of new guidelines regarding what is an assist recently, hence the increased numbers of assists given this season. But in that particular instance no assist would be given as he received the pass in his own half.

Yes I always thought it couldnt be an assist from own half but always thought harsh in the case of say a last second launch up court to basket to a big waiting in paint

Fozzie it is not where the pass was from but where the player who received the pass was when he took it under control. Catches the ball in open court 1 yard in his own half = no assist. Catches the ball 1 yard in opposition half = assist. Not necessarily a ruling I agree with but FIBA have spoken.

Ok
Next daft question
If a player takes a shot that hits the rim etc or backboard and another player then jumps and dunks it in
Is the initial missed shot now treated as an assist
If so is it no longer a missed field goal attempt?
Or can you have a missed field goal attempt that is also an assist?

Hmmm I thought the answer to that was straightforward at first. If it hits the rim definitely a missed shot, an offensive rebound and an unassisted field goal. However if someone deliberately oops it off the backboard for a trailing dunker then...I think there may be an official interpretation and a 'spirit of the game' interpretation. As an increasingly old fogey I'd like to think it's a missed shot!

If the Internet was to ever reach Worcester, or phone, post or pigions would they ever sign a replacement for Kennedy? Daft question.

Deliberate alley oop off the board should definitely be an assist
I'm hoping to see a few of them from Rodriguez and Trayvonn wright (assuming rodriguez signs for us again as I've seen rodriguez do one of those on his highlights reel)
1 min 35 seconds in approx
Rodriguez and Wright linking up in BBL could be electric judging by these highlights above
I understand Rodriguez and a forward from his college team averaged 2 alley oops a game in their final season together.
If ever a point guard was purpose built for Trayvonn Wright then it's this guy
You may need to start calling Riders Team Hollywood if what I think these guys could do together comes to fruition
Would imagine Holder will catch a piece of the action as well
Going to be a fun few months ahead I think at Riders

Is the Wolves franchise going to be moved to Birmingham in the next to years. Why would Worcester University fund a team that doesn't play there?
