From the limited highlights I have seen I would suggest that the scouting report was to step off him. All his 3s appeared to come when played by bigger opponents who were basically daring him to shoot and he made them pay for it. That's good basketball.
I suspect (and hope) when he is fitter that he will often just ignore them dropping off and drive it anyway. As you say he looked a bit sluggish and unusually awkward on that lob he converted. With his confidence and his legs back under him he looks like he will be a right handful just like a Barkley or Larry Johnson in their prime.
What do you make of the all star starters?

Only saw the highlights Vs Denver but he had several nice drives and scores at the hoop, plus that block! This guy is going to be so fun to watch in the years to come!

Something tells me the Lakers are going to win the championship now - ok it wasn't exactly a bold statement before, but I just think LeBron is going to be more determined than ever to deliver this one for Kobe, he'll will them to it. It will be emotional and one of "those" moments in sports. I actually hope it does happen, it will be incredible to see.

To be honest I am not sure Kobe Bryant would approve of the game being off, or indeed the 24 and 8 second violations that have been done in his name. He was well known for playing through pain and other difficult/challenging times in his life. He was also well known for his ability in the "clutch" such as shot clocks winding down etc.
I am not telling people how to grieve or pay their respects- but he seemed to me to be all about playing the game, playing it hard and playing to win.

I dont mind the shot clock tributes, its not about the turnovers but just using that time to reflect and remember him before the game commences proper. I do think tonight's game with the Clippers would have been the perfect first home game for the lakers, an all-LA affair allowing the entire basketball community of LA to remember and celebrate him. Now the first home game will be against just some other random team. However if they don't feel they can do it, put that on, too many employees are still affected too badly to work, etc. then I can understand it. Its not just about the players but all the staff associated with the team who worked with Kobe previously.
All star weekend will be particularly poignant now - the team strips were already going to have a black band across the shoulder to honour Stern, whether they go for 2 now or just use one to honour both of them, we'll have to see. But the atmosphere and the action will be heavily feeding into tributes. Another spooky occurrence - Dwight Howard after 10 years has decided to enter the slam dunk, and expressed that he wanted to reach out to Kobe to help him with it. He was rallying laker fans to get Kobe on board, perhaps making a real effort to bury the hatchet once and for all with him. So there's every chance Kobe would have been in the slam dunk for Dwight to jump over or whatever, so that too is going to be emotional (assuming Howard still takes part). I expect someone will don a Kobe jersey and do the between the legs dunk he won it with - though there'd be great pressure not to screw it up!
Obviously the game is in Chicago so I hope MJ will be on hand too and of course Shaq will be there. Just a lot going to happen over that weekend in tributes and remembrance.

www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/28596473/knicks-elfrid-payton-knocks-grizzlies-jae-crowder-seats-late-3-point-attemptSeriously teams and players at all levels need to get over this nonsense. There are so many things at play in the dying moments of any game whether it be professional sports or local league. Maybe Crowder is on some sort of bonus if he scores x amount of points/3s? How about the Knicks actually play some defence until the game is done? They clearly need the practice. Equally at local league level, where this seems to be creeping in, you may have some kid or adult who has been riding the pine most of the game. Garbage time is their only time! Let them shoot, let them play. If we get over this bollox then players won't start ridiculous fights or end up embarrassing themselves on national TV with stupid and sexist comments and then having to issue half arsed apologies on Twitter! All Crowder did was steal the ball and shoot a 3 in a game of basketball.......

Snowflake Generation.
There was 48 seconds left? Ffs
There are 3 real problems here. 1 payton is a bit of a prick 2 Morris is a massive prick. 3 knicks suck. At least there are some constants in life

The 4th period will last 8 minutes.
It's a nice tribute, I'll watch with interest but even with Luka playing I struggle to get excited about iy

I thought the last 2 years it was way more competitive than the old format. These changes are a bit complicated but I think it will help again.
What do we think about Bradley Beal being snubbed? Averaging nearly 29ppg and stayed with Washington despite the fact they sucked, he feels like he's being punished for his loyalty now. I kind of agree but maybe he's forgetting one thing - the Wiz seem to score about 130 points every game and still lose. They must have the worst defence in the league by far. So scoring 29ppg sounds good but they are such a high scoring team it rather devalues that because they are all offence and it's not winning them games. Perhaps he'll get in as an injury replacement though. Considering Trae Young is in albeit he got the vote from the fans and media, the Hawks are even worse!

So the reserves are named now as well-
Eastern Conference
Starter: Kemba Walker, G, Boston Celtics Starter: Trae Young, G, Atlanta Hawks Starter: Giannis Antetokounmpo, F, Milwaukee Bucks Starter: Pascal Siakam, F, Toronto Raptors Starter: Joel Embiid, C, Philadelphia 76ers Reserve: Bam Adebayo, F, Miami Heat Reserve: Jimmy Butler, F, Miami Heat Reserve: Jayson Tatum, G, Boston Celtics Reserve: Kyle Lowry, G, Toronto Raptors Reserve: Ben Simmons, G, Philadelphia 76ers Reserve: Domantas Sabonis, F, Indiana Pacers Reserve: Khris Middleton, G, Milwaukee Bucks
Western Conference
Starter: Luka Doncic, G, Dallas Mavericks Starter: James Harden, G, Houston Rockets Starter: LeBron James, F, Los Angeles Lakers Starter: Anthony Davis, F, Los Angeles Lakers Starter: Kawhi Leonard, F, Los Angeles Clippers Reserve: Chris Paul, G, Oklahoma City Thunder Reserve: Damian Lillard, G, Portland Trail Blazers Reserve: Russell Westbrook, G, Houston Rockets Reserve: Brandon Ingram, F, New Orleans Pelicans Reserve: Donovan Mitchell, G, Utah Jazz Reserve: Rudy Gobert, C, Utah Jazz Reserve: Nikola Jokic, C, Denver Nuggets
Injuries seem to have robbed Paul George and Kyrie Irving. With the later I'm surprised he wasn't voted in by the fans as he seems very popular amongst younger fans. Apparently Bradley Beal not happy...to be fair there cannot be many times in the past when players averaging nearly 29 pts a game were not considered all stars but times have changed!Same for Devan Booker - both seem to be victims of playing on crap teams!

www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/28604043/raptors-kyle-lowry-says-was-pushed-fan-diving-standsBeen a strange week in the NBA with emotions running high. Honestly not sure there is anything in this. Fan could just as easily say he was trying to help him get back in the game....either way I think if players are that worried about this stuff the answer is really simple. No more court side seats and that of course is potentially a huge revenue drop for their teams. Maybe it will happen though.

I did a one-on-one interview with him at the O2 when Raptors played there. He seemed a genuinely nice bloke. But he's being a bit of a tart, here. He's landed on someone, I reckon he's initiated contact, he can't possibly know whether the guy is helping him get up or not. It's a pretty long way from being an assault.

www.espn.co.uk/nba/story/_/id/28610559/rockets-beat-mavericks-using-historically-small-lineupSo Hersey....your boys can’t beat the NBA equivalent of the munchkins then? 😂 It’s certainly an interesting way of playing and says a lot about the way NBA play has evolved. As far as I recall the last team to really punish small ball was the last Lakers championship squad who regularly featured Bynum, Gasol and Odom with Kobe as one of the guards. They were almost playing volleyball on the offensive glass. Ironic as Jackson to some degree played a version of small ball In the 90s when he would often used Rodman at Centre, Kukoc as a stretch 4 and Pip, MJ and Harper. Although to call them “small”’is taking the mickey a bit. My failing memory seems to recall something called the World Basketball League for players 6ft 5 and under that Butch Hayes starred in. Here was a player!!

Or just do what they did at the Emirates after that players brother ran onto court, and put a barrier up

Steve Mills is FINALLY out from the Knicks. However I suspect as long as Dollars Dolan is running that show they'll never turn the proverbial corner...

What did Capella do to get traded? I appreciate they like small ball but seriously? Did he sleep with somebodies wife or girlfriend? Steal sweets from the ball kids? Covington is a decent player but what chance do Houston have against say the Lakers now with no rim protection?

This is classic D'Antoni though isn't it? He seems to be allergic to shooting later than 7 seconds into possession and to anyone over 6'7 tall. To be fair Houston is 10-1 without Capella in the lineup so they might feel he was expendable. I see Atlanta also acquired Nene, not sure if he can still play these days but he was really good not that long ago so potentially that's 2 quality big men for the Hawks now which should improve them.
Here's a good teaser - which team is better right now, Houston or OKC? Everyone expected so much from the Rockets and little from the Thunder, but its OKC who have been winning more consistently over the last month or so. Westbrook doesn't seem to be making as much of an impact for Houston as we thought he would. Harden is still by far the primary scoring option and ball hogger, it just feels like Westbrook does about the same as what Cp3 was doing last season.

I think OKC are having the better regular season. Until Capella went I would though have said that it would be Houston that would do better in the play-offs. Now though I am not so sure.
The game has changed and I had read they were successful with Capella out of the line up. Was he the problem though? It feels like an admission that they can only play one way and are prepared to concede rebounds and rim protection to further their descent into a 5 out, isolation style. I find it boring but the point is to win so I guess that is how they will be judged.
I really hope in the playoffs they play the Lakers and get eaten alive on the glass and off penetration to the hoop.

His salery didn't help this trade takes them under the cap, do think it's an odd fit for the hawks on offence as Collins is better around the rim!
