That’s a very heady play By CP3 but the touchdown pass from Adams was even better!

I'm mildly content about Mavs decision not to sraft this bloke. Tbh drafting trae wasn't a bad choice he is going to be an all star and a great player he's just not in the same class as Luka he was clearly the best player in the draft mvp of the euroleague at 18!! I just think there's still that arrogance around the nba that European basketball isn't that great compared to the USA when the truth was he was playing against NBA talent and maybe for money or playing time chose europe

Ha. Just noticed it's Houston v GS on Xmas tomorrow. That tickled me. Shows how much things can change in a few months from when the schedule was done.
Clippers Lakers is the one for me providing AD and LeBron play. PG13 missed the first game so if all 4 stars are out there it will be great to see who wins, especially as both are riding some unexpected losses recently.
Not sure it's going to matter ultimately though, look what the Bucks are doing! Not getting much press for it but they're far and away the best team right now.

I’m increasingly inclined to think that Russ Westbrook is.......making the £100 I just shelled out for his Jersey and Shorts set for Connors Jnr a little galling 😂

Warriors bottom of the west. What is the 2020 draft like. Do warriors have a 1st round pick? Could we see the next super team and havr a rookie in a line uo woth klay steph and draymond?

Embarrassing loss for Rockets on Xmas day, national TV. They clearly underestimated the Warriors and at times performance was so lack lustre Green showing remarkable maturity and leadership for them whilst they struggle but I’ve been surprised how average Russell has been since moving from Nets. Seems at best a one season rental.
I was impressed by the Celtics small line up and balance and also by Embiid on Giannis in the Bucks Sixers game. He has the size and sense to play off him and then use his own length and strength to bother him at the rim. Giannis needs to be able to pull up and make him pay for sitting back but he’s not comfy doing that yet. Luckily for the Bucks there are not many players who can do this.......
Lakers v Clippers an excellent game. Some great defending on show along with the usual offensive brilliance. For me these are the two best teams in the NBA and built for the playoffs. Bizarre play when Lou Williams missed a layup and Davis got called for a foul post the miss. Also disappointed not to see Lebron on Leonard down the stretch more. Green is not big enough despite his excellent defence. Two key fouls in crunch time and nothing he could do. Brilliant play by Beverley to seal the win.

What odds could you have got on both warriors and pelicans winning their Xmas games? Remarkable! Didn't watch this one but sounds like Kerr came up with a good strategy to slow Harden down, I wonder if it will catch on? Or maybe it was more to do with Houston just under estimating them.

To be honest I thought Houston were so lack lustre as to be bordering on unprofessional. Draymond Green said they were determined not to foul him and credited WCS for his rim protection. I’m not sure that’s really a strategy....don’t foul him and hope he misses but it certainly worked on the day! Westbrook was horrific from efficiency perspective including 0/8 from behind the arc. If they played 10 x I’m sure the result would be the other way 9 times

Surprises of the season so far for me in the West are Dallas and OKC. Favourites of the other two NBA fans on whatsbev. I’ve also bee pleasantly surprised by Miami and to some extent the Durantless Nets.....plus the Bulls who are fighting for play offs.
Doncic, Porzingas and Hardaway a very good 3 players to build around. Carlisle is a superb coach.

I see Harden missed last night's game, so that rules him out for MVP this season (based on his criteria that the MVP has to play every game)

RIP David Stern. What a ****ty start to the new decade. Didn't like some of his policies but ultimately he grew basketball, not just the NBA, the sport itself, on a global level.

Yes sad news about Stern. Possibly the greatest ever league commissioner/chairman in all sports.
One of my favourite ever pieces of commentary in an NBA game was after a blocked shot and they classic “oh my god he’s got David Stern printed on his forehead”.

[be well I did tell you 18 months ago that Luka was going to be the second coming I still think we're 1 more piece away. Probably an upgrade on Powell. But I'm really enjoying watching them. Very sad about Stern. I met him at the O2 , genuinely nice bloke. No one's ever going to make every call correctly but he did fantastic things for the nba.

There's nothing there. Though if it was Rondo I'd be in complete agreement

I thought it was BS too and was surprised after review the decision stood. However he's also been fined $25k so the league obviously agreed too.
As for Doncic, Carlisle is moaning that he's getting beat up too much by defences - I dunno. The league is so soft these days compared to what it used to be, and Carlisle has been around it that whole time so he should know. Its not exactly the Jordan Rules, is it? And plus, as good as he is, I don't think Doncic is quite as unstoppable as MJ was, though he's well on his way to it. Surely a multiple MVP winner in the future.
Meanwhile Vince Carter has now officially played in 4 different decades. I think the 22 seasons is more impressive as he's just been fortunate that he entered in 1999, but no one has done 22 before. And he can still play! I remember 43 year old Robert Parish getting a free ring with the Bulls in the 90s - when he actually did play he looked terrible and could hardly run. Vince is actually still pretty decent!

Vince Carter is brilliant. I still believe he’s paying back some seasons in his prime where he mailed it in sometimes not always playing when he could etc. His exceptional durability and otherworldly athleticism have allows him to play on as well as his willingness to modify his game and accept a “role”.

www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/28450353/the-dreadful-race-8th-nba-western-conference-incredibly-unfamiliarThis is interesting. I've harped on for years about how the east sucks and it should be the top 16 teams in the playoffs. The stats in the article show the disparity although as it says, that might finally change this season, though perhaps as a one off. For the NBA to say it's cyclical is rubbish, after 22 years in a row of this, you can't honestly say that with a straight face surely? Won't surprise me if SA or Portland get to .500 anyway by April!

So Zion finally makes his debut in a few days, can't wait to see what he can do at this level. It's the same sense of anticipation as when Duncan and LeBron entered the league. Although it sucks he's been injured, at least his starting now brightens up what's traditionally a fairly dull part of the season!
Meanwhile did anyone else realise Miami have only dropped one home game so far? Very tough to beat yet on the road they're fairly ordinary!

I’m looking forward to watching him play! He’s a big boy with a lot of talent. I hope he’s as good as everyone thinks he will be.

Interesting debut! Didn't do much for three quarters and looked woefully out of shape, but then went off in the 4th. To score 17 straight in your first game is incredible. I also think had they been able to leave him out there, the Pelicans may have won the game. But I understand why they couldn't do that. Slight concern that he scored most of the points behind the 3 point line - I really don't like bigs who can score at will in the paint spending time out there, even if they can knock down a few. For me basketball has always been simple - you play an inside, outside game until a scoring opportunity arises. If your skilled bigs are sitting on the outside then you're not giving yourself a good opportunity inside, for a high percentage shot. Zion is going to be unstoppable at the goal - think he'll be a cross between Barkley and Shaq - so more than ever I just want to see him work the post. I get that without his fitness he's been putting up jumpers and honing his range but I hope going forward he'll be an inside presence more than he was here.
