It is plain to see the gulf in just the next level up. Riders inside presense is not even close to where it needs to be. These calibre of players don't come cheap, but in hindsight would it have been worth sacrificing couple of players to get a standout big?
I said on Twitter last night that this experience will benefit the club long term, not neccessariliy theplayers. Some of theseplayers will improve, biut others are already at "their" level. Great experience, weren't emabarrassed by any stretch and this is just the start of an exciting chapter for the club.

It keeps getting mentioned didnt esgles beat them? Credible result with arguably two starters out (new pg just in the team) i do not feel the riders roster is kitted out for europe this season nor do i think they will cruise the league. However if they win the league and do europe again next year they will be much better from this years adventure. Whatever bakken team Eagles scored 112 against in a friendly either was half the quality of this bakken team or was a bakken team this quality having a walk in the park and playing half court press and not worried about the result as it was a friendly. It was a pre-season game back in 2016. I’m always cautions about making comparisons to anything that happened more than a year ago as you could essentially be comparing two different teams – i.e. you can’t say the Bakken Bears that beat Riders last night were the same team Newcastle beat 2 years ago. And as you say, it was a pre-season friendly, where Eagles arguably had more to prove (playing a European team) than Bears did. I don’t think Riders were at their best last night, but I can’t think of another BBL team that would have matched, let alone bettered, their performance last night.

100% agree. Some nice offense, but at thislevel it is very difficult to be consistent for most of the game

Larson needs to stay on the court more the riders are paper thin inside especially now pierres gone down! But for the bbl the depth is mind blowing that's enough to win most games!! Add to the fact it's quality depth!! They reached semis of Euro Cup last year though. Except they didn’t. They reached the semi-finals of the Europe Cup. The Euro Cup is generally regarded the 2nd tier of pan-European basketball, behind the EuroLeague but better than the Champions League. The Europe Cup is generally regarded the 4th tier of pan-European basketball, and I’d say most teams competing in it are of the level of ‘better’ BBL teams. Whilst I’d love to see Riders (or any BBL team) in the Champions League, it’s just not going to happen (right now). The European Cup is a much more appropriate level, and I think Riders should be able to play some good competitive games at that level.

Comparison, Ryan Martin played 13 minutes only, would he not be a Super Star in the BBL. Well done Leicester.

My overriding concern is not if we'll compete at this level (we won't) but whether Burnett was seriously injured last night. Can't see the point of throwing him back into the game if he had a bad injury. We need his skills to be competitive in the domestic league. Losing one American pg would be unfortunate but to lose another when we know Hampton's out for a while? That looks like poor judgement. Therefore, I'm assuming his injury wasn't so serious.

I didn't think it looked like anything too concerning, but it would certainly be a pity if we lost him for a while.
Been thinking about the game this morning: what a difference Pierre Hampton would have made. His kind of size, aggression and drive would have challenged the bigger and well organised Bears defence. But hey ho, such is life.

It might have made the score a bit closer, but I'm not convinced it would have got them the win. It felt like Bears were giving it all they needed to, not all they had. If Riders had pushed harder (with Hampton) I suspect Bears could have pushed harder too (maybe with Martin) - resulting in a similar end result.

At least if Leicester get knocked out then they'd transfer to the Europe Cup and potentially face 2 Hungarian teams and the winner of Benfica vs Dinamo Sassari, it'd be funny if it was Benfica as it would mirror Leicester's football team when they were in the Champions League group stage and faced a Portuguese team themselves although it was Porto they had and not Benfica

If Riders had pushed harder (with Hampton) I suspect Bears could have pushed harder too (maybe with Martin) - resulting in a similar end result. That's exactly my thoughts Early on in the game Bears were just passing the ball to the big guy who was killing us under the hoop - either scoring or drawing fouls They could have carried on doing that all night if they wanted to surely? They just stopped and started scoring other ways. Think various players tried to mark him but none could. Andy probably did the best. The one thing Bakken must have learnt is our guys are resilient and will keep coming back. But I expect them to put the foot on the gas again at the start of the game on Saturday. Then cruise again and any time we start coming back then they put the foot back on the gas. I think once the game is out of sight we should bench all the players with niggles despite the fact the score will get worse But come the consolation European competition I'm thinking we could do really well and win plenty of games with this squad and this coach. The games will be way easier in comparison. As will BBL be way easier in comparison.

These calibre of players don't come cheap, but in hindsight would it have been worth sacrificing couple of players to get a standout big? If we want to play in Europe long term we need to keep winning the League to qualify Champions League and fall back into the consolation draw If not Europe next year might be one two legged games trying to qualify for the consolation tournament and nothing else if we lose So I'm saying that because I still think winning BBL each season has to take priority over Europe - especially at this stage and I wouldn't want to sacrifice our league chances as above

The BBL league championship is what I want to see us win each season and that's crucial to playing in Europe - this year it'll be tougher I think because Eagles, Lions, Royals and Rocks look stronger. Others will be no pushovers either (e.g. Flyers) so we have to remain focused above all on retaining our title as league champions imo. European competition is exciting but we have a very long road to travel before we could compete against the likes of Bakken Bears. That'll take sponsorship on a very serious level and a big increase in home crowds. Disappointing to see we didn't sell out last night.

Superb interview as usual from Rob, spot on.
Burnett is 'not in great condition'. Can't wait to see him when he gets fit!
Larsson didn't impress me unfortunately, mention already made of his feet etc. but he didn't look to have great hands either!
I agree BBL is no 1 priority, and Europe is a fun adventure as long as it lasts

At least Burnett is able to play. Thought he may have an injury preventing him being on court. Totally one-sided as expected.

Just to re-clarify.....
Riders will face
Falco Vulcano Szombathely (HUN) Szolnoki Olaj (HUN) Dinamo Sassari (ITA) or SL Benfica (POR)
in Group H of the FIBA Europe Cup regular season if they fail to make progress today.

Couldn’t disagree more! Most of the Riders looked off the pace today..none of them played out of there skins! Holder had a poor game and so did a few of the others. The tie is far from done and dusted, if Hampton can get fit and Burnett settles into the way the team play, it has the potential to be a great second leg. Lol If Riders get through send me a private message and I will pay for you to go all expenses paid to the next round They are a totally different level to us I guess my money's safe! 94-75 with 4 mins to go So lucky for me that we are off the pace again and playing poorly or else that could have been very expensive! Lol We could play this Bakken team 50 times and not beat them once. They are several levels above BBL.

Yep. League of 4. Home and away. Every Wednesday night from Oct 17th to Nov 21st. I think we will do well. Im expecting we bring 2 or 3 BBL games forward now. Who wants to play us first? We are more than ready for all of you! Even without Pierre!

Finished 103-84
Burnett 23 mins 14 points and 6 assists (was in foul trouble or would have played more I think)
Holder 30 mins 17 points
Larsson 19 mins 10 points and 5 rebounds (he's going do well in BBL IMO)
Douse 12 mins 10 points
Off to buy some popcorn for watching Royals at Flyers tonight
Let's see what they've got!!
