Yes we were beaten soundly but I think the team will have benefited from the 2 games. The BBL won't present many such games where defence against us is so intense. We also lacked Hampton who would have narrowed the deficit- priority is to return him to full fitness asap. Burnett is a major asset and Holder showed his class again today. Can't believe Anderson missed 5 free throws in a row in Q4. At least he scored a 3 pointer between the free throws to make amends somewhat.
Don't think any other BBL team would have fared better, even if they had a fully fit squad.

Tel aviv was awesome when I went. Can understand why folk would rather avoid it though...

The BBL league championship is what I want to see us win each season and that's crucial to playing in Europe - this year it'll be tougher I think because Eagles, Lions, Royals and Rocks look stronger. Others will be no pushovers either (e.g. Flyers) so we have to remain focused above all on retaining our title as league champions imo. European competition is exciting but we have a very long road to travel before we could compete against the likes of Bakken Bears. That'll take sponsorship on a very serious level and a big increase in home crowds. Disappointing to see we didn't sell out last night. Rocks better?

Tried to follow the scores from a beach in Spain, but then get the time wrong for the second leg!
Disappointed but not shocked about Riders getting beaten, by the sound of things fairly comfortably. But it’ll definitely be good for the team to have these (and hopefully future) opportunities to play a team at this higher level, and I’m sure Rob will see to it that they take valuable lessons from this into Europe Cup. It’s a great step for them and the league, and I hope more teams can do it soon.

After their disastrous showing against Lions I'd already revised that opinion!

I’m sure Rob will see to it that they take valuable lessons from this into Europe Cup. I think the first lesson he may have learned is that if you're relying on the likes of Larsson and Thomson to defend the paint, you're inviting trouble at this level. Only two games in but what I saw certainly gave credence to the idea that this is where we'll come unstuck in Europe. Thought we looked porous inside for much of the tie and even when we did get stops we struggled to take care of the boards. Pierre will help a bit with the latter, and bring plenty to the table offensively, but I don't see him as a defensive stopper. Emphasizing defense seems to be a pretty standard part of coaching rhetoric but it absolutely holds weight with Rob. His success as a BBL coach has unquestionably been built around defense and it has to be a bit concerning that we've shipped 193 points through two games, against a team that looked like it had plenty in reserve. Yes they were a pretty good side but I wouldn't assume that it's going to get a huge amount easier in Europe Cup and I'm not sure we have the ability to address this issue with our existing personnel. That was a pretty rough introduction to life at this level and I'd be lying if I said I was brimming with confidence about our prospects moving forward. On a positive note, I've little doubt about the ability of this side domestically. If Burnett is as good as it looks like he might be, I think this is as talented a Riders team as we've had for a while and I'm not convinced that any of last season's main protagonists have got significantly better. My only slight concern on this front is fixture congestion through November. If we can maybe move a few games around and ultimately navigate that period unscathed, I'm pretty confident we'll take care of the league.
