Neither Riders or Eagles underperformed. That's just one of those comforting things people say when they're coming to terms with not being as good as they used to be. Bottom line is that Lions ruled the roost and until Riders or Eagles step up their game both are chip paper.

Odd. I am sure I can recall Riders winning the playoffs. Maybe I was hallucinating.

I would agree other than Riders did already step up at end of season Gonk We finished last season as the best team in BBL. Not just results wise. Performance wise as well. New season though and new squads now - so we go again. Rob has proved time and again he can rebuild teams successfully. He's had to do it again as we have quality players moving on to bigger and better opportunities. Victims of our success. Be interesting to see how many changes there will be at Lions. They don't want to have to change too much. Obviously they need to replace Spencer Meanwhile Eagles do need to make significant changes if they want to compete again

You can only beat what's in front of you and a trophy is better than no trophy. However, beating the 8th, 7th and 4th best teams to clinch the playoffs isn't exactly an indication of a huge increase in performance, is it?
As with any set of fans, the playoffs is regularly considered less important than the league.... until you win it then suddenly its monumental.

Noticed that last year.
Certain prominent Riders fans who in 2017 were saying that the league was the be-all and end-all then started saying that the league isn't very well known and doesn't give the same level of prestige as the playoffs.
Simply nonsense obviously.

I reckon they've got the knack of reinventing. Riders have been 4th or better for 7 years straight. That seems good too. Lions....far too early to say. It's good that they've still got Peel. Beyond that - who knows?

Simply nonsense obviously. I've never thought the playoffs are more important than the league in the BBL. Will that view change with the league's new format? Jury's out atm.

Simply nonsense obviously. League still remains by far the most important trophy to win IMO But that's totally irrelevant to me saying the Riders finished the season looking like the strongest team We improved significantly towards the end of the season but too late to recover the league Shame we've had to rebuild again but exciting at the same time

Lions blew the play-offs against Raiders, couldn't cope with Donte Nicholas, we looked knackered. If we'd limped past them, I think we'd have beaten Riders but hey-ho, who knows!!
As for the league, it's always been the most important trophy on the British season-UP till now - By reducing the amount of games by a third & making the play-offs best of 3, the play-offs probably now become at least as important, it's hardly any different to the new cup competition and no one is suggesting that finishing top of your cup group is more important than winning the cup!

Back to the subject - Newcastle Eagles sign...........nobody else yet.
Has INF put the jinx on them? Or will he be afraid (or very afraid) when all is revealed?

Pretty certain Eagles will be stronger this season than last now they have their arena. Newcastle fans needn't be over concerned imo.
