I don't understand the comments about Rocks v. Eagles being like a dead game, or pre-season, or comparatively meaningless. For me, it was keenly contested and had much more intensity than most recent early-season Championship games I've seen. Rocks are now 1-1 in their Cup North group, which also includes Riders. I don't think any of our remaining 8 Cup Group games are meaningless if we want to progress.
Both teams had players missing tonight due to registration issues. Rocks were without two forwards, Pepper and Ebala, despite them having played two nights ago. Don't understand that. Don't know what that means for the outcome of that Giants v. Rocks game.
Don't feel too despondent about losing because I think the lack of 2 of our 4 big men hurt Rocks more than Eagles missing a guard and a forward. It gave Eagles an advantage in the paint which they exploited, as the rebounding and points-in-the-paint stats show.
When a thread started about some refs being cut from the BBL, I really, really hoped Ian MacDonald would be one of them. Sadly, he's still around to irritate fans with nonsense calls. Several tonight.

Clear up the ref confusion... uncle festa is not ian MacDonald.... he is worse. Never seen a ref create as many fouls as he does either way.
Pryor looks lean and mean. What we need. Ali has improved his moves however our lack of depth inside hurt us badly, especially when Ali needed a rest.
With some of the other issues this seems to atink of basketball england dailing in registering players. If the guy Pepper has been able to get a visa and that has been approved why is his registration a struggle?
If fridays game is forfeited its cool the game didnt happen anyway as its not on youtube

Maybe if Rocks have to forfeit then we can bring up the old Defoe argument... Club need to get their act together along with the Governing Bodies. DS says they will get it all sorted. Surprised with him and David Low it was even allowed to happen in the first place.
Regardless, enjoyed watching the Eagles game. The Youtube stream was decent, few hiccups in the first half but not enough to ruin the enjoyment. Eagles looked good and will only get better. Same for the Rocks I think. Pryor is fire. He's dropped 10lb this off season and has changed his shot technique. Ali Fraser usually starts a season slow but he seems to be finishing where he left off last season.
Thought we dominated the game at some points but Eagles were better overall. Rebounding stats will tell us that.

Rocks had to sit two players on Sunday who didn't have international clearance yet both played Friday night. Don't see any way they can keep the points from Fridays game.

If that happens then what do we do with all the games Eagles have won with Defoe?!

I agree with INF, we need the individual game threads back

I agree with INF, we need the individual game threads back Don't worry it's only a trail, I think this idea's better if there were less games like during pre-season.

He’s known as Deputy Dawg or The Butcher. My old friend uncle fiesta, by any chance? I thought it was him but it was his skinny stunt double. Never saw that guy before.

Least Sharks wont finish bottom this year. After a good season last year, the Giants lost their big import and other key men and have a really poor roster. Not sure they will win many games at all this season. It was not a great game and very one sided. The crowd was maybe the lowest I have ever seen for a Sharks home opener - not even half full - maybe 300-400 in there and that is being generous. Sharks played well today - said it with Koch outstanding again - he is a legit big man. Marsden and Lewis had good games too. McKnight played the point well too. Even Backovic did something right. However, they were playing a shockign side. Still have to beat what is in front of you. Hope the sharks can get their two starters back ASAP though.
A discussion on Sharks Fans Facebook regarding the 'new' venue - Ponds Forge. This went on to look at Attendance and capacity for Sunday. Apparently the BBL live stats said it was 231!!! The Sharks were tagged and they gave the figure of 709.

From my memory of Ponds Forge, crowd is only on one side with a row of seats on camera side. Looking at the game video seemed v small crowd, would have thought 350 at most.

To be fair it said 500 for the Rocks v Eagles game and there was at least double that from what I could see.

From my memory of Ponds Forge, crowd is only on one side with a row of seats on camera side. Looking at the game video seemed v small crowd, would have thought 350 at most. Watching the game back, I would say that it looked just abouts' a little over half full, including the seats on the far side (not shown on camera), now VIP seating. You have to know the capacity of Ponds Forge, halving this to give you an estimate. Without this all guesses are pointless and can be misleading. Hence the Sharks were tagged as they know the official capacity and I suggest through ticket sales know the attendance. They have stated this as 709. I guess it is up to individuals if they believe this or not and prefer to guestimate for whatever reason(s).

Working on my suggestion that it was just abouts' half full on Sunday and using suggested/guessed estimates; 231, 350, and (300-400)double those figures for a capacity of 700- 800 or even just 500.
Doubling 709 would give a capacity of around 1400 - 1500.
Capacity of venue; 500, 700, 1500? WHO KNOWS??

I'd agree with dyb dyb that it was a bit more than half full (especially with the VIPS on the other side out of camera shot) so I'd guess the capacity is around 1400. I was told it was more than the EIS which was around 1000.

I know they hoped to get close to 5K for the opener. Hard to tell from the broadcast but would say it was closer to 3500 to 4000 than 500 of livestats announcement

Riders are very good at promoting generally but can't fill the arena atm.

I was told by a fellow poster it was over 4k at the rocks game but that wasnt the final attendance. I wouldnt believe the statcast figure ever it just has to be populated. I do worry for sharks though. Last season anytime i watched a game the crowd looked less and less.

I do worry for sharks though. Last season anytime i watched a game the crowd looked less and less. What is it with the Sharks attendance? Yes, I can go back to the days that we filled Ponds Forge est 1400 (number given today) those people watched a championship winning side. I've attended games at the Sheffield arena, when sponsorship was much greater. I can remember Budwieser being the league's main sponsors. Now this week we have estimates of 200, 300 - 400 when numbers were much, much higher. I must admit I was disappointed with a half full arena on Sunday for the first home game of the season but this disappointment also includes the lack of numbers from Manchester, our local rivals from over the pennines on a Sunday afternoon. I'm only talking about posts on here, but they cant be helpful to our plight when suggesting crowds are much lower than they actually are. Bad news travels faster than good. e.g. 300 - 400 instead of 700. People talk about the 300 more than the 700 disappointing as the half full arena was.
