So, just because there's no confirmed cases they play on? Seems a bit reckless. I think so as well. Probably weighing up the financial cost against the human cost... Basketball Scotland have suspended all basketball with immediate effect. Here's some business guesses: The final if it isn't played this weekend won't be played at all All monies would have to be refunded The venue will still charge the BBL if they choose not to go ahead As of now there is nothing the BBL can point to that would allow them to call the game off without paying? Next week they could if that new Scottish rule for events over 500 guests is still coming in So combine the refunds and still having to pay for the obligations and that's potentially the BBL going bankrupt I would say They may still do so anyway Just like many other clubs and sports will in the next couple of months They are making a business decision led by the current guidance If 5 of the players get coronavirus between now and the final maybe they get some getout clauses on paying the venue. Having said that I imagine deposits will have been paid they won't get back as every business is having to look after itself The BBL will still have to refund everyone though but maybe not have to pay for the venue in full and other ancillary commitments they no longer need There's going to be a lot of BBL players not getting their next pay cheques as well We talk about sports clubs and BBL like they are the bad guys by putting finance ahead of health etc It's a lot more complicated than that If you are a business who can just cancel everything and can afford it then good luck to you Many won't have any options and then there will be knock on effects for everyone further down the line No easy answers here Here's another good job to be in right now! Insolvency Practitioner There won't be anywhere enough of them to go round

2 BE teams can't play each other with small crowds, but a BE team can play a BBL team in front of thousands?

There will be BBL players who know if any of them self isolate its the end of the BBL season and no more wages, accommodation and job.
Even in a normal season clubs struggle to pay their wages
Catch 22 for the players. They will want the final to go ahead. They won't want the league to close early. Its their livelihood

Something else that's going to happen is businesses that have struggled for years to stay afloat because they are proud and don't want to go bust have the opportunity now to go bust and blame it on coronavirus etc
How many clubs have we got at the moment?
I reckon the BBL is going to be looking a lot different next year
All the clubs may be operating on tiny budgets and starting from scratch almost next year
And be careful what you are criticising as there might not be a lot left to criticise in BBL by the end of all this

And BE are presumably saying that an NBL team can play in the BBL final, but not in other competitions? I could understand if it were 2 BBL teams, but BE surely have to say that Solent can't play in the final?!

Coronavirus story
One of my staff was working for me at a lunch event in a London Hotel today
He arrived early and one of the hotel staff saw him cough and sneeze and reported it to their boss
And he was asked to leave the hotel!
He's been sat in a van all day!!
Waiting for the other staff to finish etc
This is where we are at now

Sounds like the correct response.

Sounds like the correct response. Fair enough. If that's what the rules are. You cough or sneeze you can't leave your house any more

He had absolutely no idea he had the virus at the time and was just having a laugh. Nothing in it whatsoever.

Yeah. Though a decent lawyer could still prove he's a moron.

World snooker have announced its tournament in Wales next week is going ahead as normal and the darts premier League was staged this week and looks to be on next week too so not all indoor events are being cancelled. However ESPN ran an article suggesting all basketball except in Turkey has been cancelled. I guess the BBL is too small for them to mention!

If a few of the snooker players or darts players have to self isolate that will be that And like I've said in other threads that's the livelihood of the players gone as well when they do! They aren't on salaries. They need to earn prize money etc.
