I’m staggered by the lack of discussion of this topic on a BBL forum.....doh. Great news the kids are back playing again in some shape or form. T3 of course no matches and I know our kids will be gutted. Be interested to see how NL will go with teams from T3 not able to compete. Overall though there was a sense of despair at my clubs group chat from the adults. If like us you are in a T3 area even the prospect of 3v3 seems a long, long way off. March?? Still I apologise to most of you on here in raising this trivial matter to the top of the threads momentarily. I’m sure the rumours of a potential squad change at one of the BBL teams will knock it off again shortly..... People have given up. I know adults who have played their entire lives who are literally quitting and claiming retirement. Forced upon them. Never mind tier 3. Tier 2 isn't even going to see a return anytime soon.

There's no voice for nbl division 2 and below. Nobody cares. As far as people are concerned bbl, nbl division 1, and the kids are all that matters.
The fact that d2 and below have been targeted and banned as if they have had some kind of responsibility for spreading the virus is a total Injustice.

I think the number of leisure centres that are being repurposed/closed as well as a result of pandemic is going to hit adult/junior basketball pretty hard. Sort of older/cheaper venues that are being targeted supply a lot of court hours to clubs/casual play.

May not comment, but I do read this thread with interest and do follow the BE updates and timing with interest (partly cause my youngest son moved to EABL Newcastle so there is a family interest in BE as well as BS rules) - and as bleak as it is for many, I wish at times I was in your shoes. Last time I coached my U16m squad indoors was 10th March when we won a local league game and were looking forward to the weekend and our National League play-off semi-final. As we are in a L4 area even the possibility of outdoor training is taken away from us for last few weeks and 12th december is earliest that might change. We will shortly be at 10 months without ability to do indoor training and unless there is a sudden relaxation by Scot Gov and then the local authority and a lesser extent also by BS, I suspect for the squad I coach we will reach 1yr without an indoor session and will be closer to 14months or more before can play another club. We live in hope the vaccine and other actions make this turn out to be pessimistic, but I suspect it is realistic views. As to the adult part of the club - its just shutdown. When our youth squads were at least allowed to do some outside contact sport training, the 18 and overs could only do socially distanced sport. Time will tell how many return when the chance to restart happens. Despite all this, the club has since August received a steady stream of requests from parents about how their kids can join the club. Mainly U12 but there have been a couple at U14 and U16 and even some seniors. So as bleak as it is right now, the interest in the sport is still there - not surprised, have you seen the weather in Scotland - we do have in normal times a big attraction of staying dry compared to the other winter sports.

Blimey DanDayr (great name by the way) that is a bloody grim picture.
Lexumcomp is correct though. The base of basketballs very wobbly pyramid is crumbling. DaveF talks a lot about creating a basketball economy (I think he is spot on) and you can see how that is being chipped away at presently by these restrictions. In the northeast we have two local leagues for men and one for women. I can see that becoming one and one after all this. With potentially trips from Richmond to Morpeth in the offing. Todays local league players are the coaches, refs, table officials, parents and supporters of the future.

At least the juniors in T3 can now play games as well. That was an unexpected U turn so quickly after the much delayed announcement.
Does it make sense? Not really. The kids (and no doubts their parents) clamouring to get back to our first session tonight don't seem to care though. They just want to play basketball and broadly speaking they know they will be safe doing so.

Knowing BE I am surprised they haven't binned the Jnr NBL. There clearly is little to no chance for D2/3. Adult local leagues the same. The hold up is pointless. 1st week in Jan crack on and let the kids play. As you say in your blog - they are playing football matches already. No practice just playing!
I was originally thinking we should be restarting already but we've got some parents (small % though) holding out kids for fear of spoiling Xmas. I get that and respect their position if they are having family together for first time in ages etc. Venues are slow to start up.
Personally I would have my boy playing on Xmas eve!

I think they're building up to your first point. D1 wouldn't have started this side of Christmas if we hadn't pushed. The irony that it's people taking a wage who don't want to play isn't lost on me

I now see why Connors and Hersey etc say how terrible Basketball England are.
Very cringeworthy that all over their socials is a random PSG soccer player playing basketball - what the hell is that trying to achieve or have to do with basketball in England? Jesus

Yeah, it's been painful, but we appear to have got there. Some thoughts, just for DTB.
You can feel the excitement on here, though

So Tier 4 for a huge area. How does that impact the planned restart of Jnr National League one wonders.............

I think all sports should be cancelled at this point from the premier League down.
NBL D1 very fortunate to be continuing.

A dim and distant light seems to be appearing at the end of the tunnel now for the kids playing basketball. Reports of outdoor sports being allowed from 29th March may be seen to be on no use to us in basketball but I disagree.
BE need to get their act together and start ensuring they have statements ready to respond to what could be a fairly rapidly changing situation....rather than the usual scenario where news comes out that suggests possible changes to the return to play status and they are seemingly caught on the hop.
Preparation now will not be wasted as adaptation will likely only be a matter of minor tweaks rather than complete re-work.
Once again though I fear for adult recreational indoor sport. Unsurprisingly the GB Masters has already been cancelled for June 2021 in Newcastle. Given the fact it is a vets tournament and play before then is likely seriously restricted if at all it was the only option. Sad though.

i don't hold out a lot of hope for the kids getting back on court. All the leaks seem to mention outdoor sport. So we get to have the "it's safe for you to go to school but not to play basketball" conversation. i hope I'm wrong.

Indoor sport hasn't even been considered for a return it seems. Everything mentioned is outdoors. We are a long long way off yet.

Gyms re-opening 12th April. Appreciate not the same thing as indoor sport but it’s a step closer.

So on April 12th I can go shopping for tat, get my haircut, go to the gym (ha ha, as if) and sink a few pints to celebrate. But my kids - who would have started school 5 weeks earlier - can't play basketball. Ok then, sounds sensible.
