So with the latest news of the English "lockdown" what chance that English sports NGBs will be able to combine to get an exemption for those under 18 to carry on playing sport both indoors and out?
I've seen first hand the massive difference physically and mentally being able to play sports has for kids not only at our club but with my own 8 year old son. He doesn't even really know yet that this Wednesday may well be the last basketball he plays in 2020.
My gut feeling is that an exemption will not be granted for indoor sports and probably not outdoor either. It feels like the government are going hard with minimal exemptions in the hope of the result they want come early December.
I would happily sacrifice inter club league competition if they could at least carry on training with all the mitigation's in place.
Dark days for grass roots sport. I miss playing myself and I should have retired years ago! For the kids its just soul destroying to see.
Is there any hope?

Can't see what's going to change in the new year. Probably be heading into a 3rd lockdown in march.
The fact that junior basketball was given the green light to continue up until now was very fortunate.
I think kids are just going to have to suck it up with everybody outside the bbl (if even they have the finances to run).
Fingers crossed the kids can resume in January for a couple of months before interruption again.

That's a though provoking point of view Lexum. You appear to be suggesting that I am wrong to want it to get an exemption. Or am I misreading that. Perhaps you are right. I guess I just don't see what difference it will make stopping kids playing basketball, with all the mitigation's in place, when they are all still (thankfully!!) at school with each other 5 days a week.
Competition that involves clubs from other areas, regions I could understand being postponed.
As you say they will probably have to accept it and hope for better days ahead.

I said fingers cross they can resume?
I'm just lost where this optimism comes from that kids will be able to continue.

Not sounding promising:
"Meanwhile, late on Monday night culture secretary Oliver Dowden clarified that children's grassroots sport played outside of school will be suspended during the lockdown, despite widespread calls for it to continue."

They've banned tennis outdoors. If that doesn't make it clear enough I guess nothing will!

So as expected, by seemingly everyone other than BE perhaps, it is now confirmed all junior basketball is off during the new lockdown in England and this time U18 Prem is no longer considered elite so they are off as well.
All BE NBL leagues outside of NBL and WNBL1 suspended until after Xmas.
Grim but inevitable.

Some thoughts. And then we can get on discussing the important things like this season's kits.

I don’t recall a specific reason. I think they were fortunate to have it classified so to start with perhaps?

I think that's the case. Academies can train, but can't play. Our academy and U-18s are virtually the same. it would have been a bit weird if the kids could play at the weekend but not on a Wednesday, or vice versa

I think the fact that so many NGBs tried to get exemptions shows how things have changed since March.

I’m sure BE have their reasons but my sons indoor Futsol is confirmed for Thursday evening. His outdoor football too. All that remains is basketball because our GB somehow can’t keep up with the ,huge resources available to Futsol in England.............

So given the result is exactly what the whole country expected where is the big announcement from BE? I mean surely they had it prepared for when the inevitable happened? FFS. 😂

You are correct that other GBs are also struggling to make sense of the advice. To some degree the government cannot win. Simple and easy to understand would likely mean something we don’t want to contemplate! More nuanced ends up being complex and hard to comprehend. However the primary role of any sports GB is to get people playing the sport and at present outside of so called elite that’s not happening......and it feels like it could!!

I’m staggered by the lack of discussion of this topic on a BBL forum.....doh.
Great news the kids are back playing again in some shape or form. T3 of course no matches and I know our kids will be gutted. Be interested to see how NL will go with teams from T3 not able to compete.
Overall though there was a sense of despair at my clubs group chat from the adults. If like us you are in a T3 area even the prospect of 3v3 seems a long, long way off. March??
Still I apologise to most of you on here in raising this trivial matter to the top of the threads momentarily. I’m sure the rumours of a potential squad change at one of the BBL teams will knock it off again shortly.....

Unfortunately I had the same thoughts. T3 getting down to T1 to be able to play again seems like quite a long task at the moment.

Par for the course. There's a sizable number on her support a basketball team but have no interest in any other facet of the game
