Thats a good question. My home town is Guildford and I supported them in the different re incarnations. I adopted Worcester as my first team and Guildford as my second. I do love Worcester as a City so I think that made the difference. When Surrey visted Worcester I could not watch as I did not want either team to lose. If there was a team its easier to let go its probably surely with all the incarnations

Surely you don't believe that they were a month away from going broke after announcing a huge expansion to the arena? The club don't pay to build the arena. It's a community arena.

Well with respect they haven't funded the capital but the revenue consequences have to be paid by someone. If not Riders what did the business case say?

Well with respect they haven't funded the capital but the revenue consequences have to be paid by someone. If not Riders what did the business case say? More facilities give more scope for revenue in the future for the arena Revenue is income for the community arena in the future not for Riders The arena is run by Leicester Riders Foundation which is separate to the pro basketball club I doubt Riders will be paying much if any more to use the facilities they need for basketball if the arena does increase in size (Riders currently pay 40k per year rent) Getting funding for building a bigger arena is a totally different project to funding riders basketball team next season I imagine the Community arena itself has needed separate Government support etc to survive Covid as well. As they will have lost a huge amount of revenue from external events and maybe bigger facilities will help in the future repay any loans etc needed to survive Covid Don't confuse the two businesses as they are separate and will have separate cash flow needs and business plans Big challenges for the arena and the club ahead

I think last season was honeymoon time for the clubs. Next couple of years going to be much harder in comparison Wow i didn't know last season (the one you said wouldn't happen) was such a blast. While the DCMS money was welcome, it didn't cover everything and it didn't come quickly, leading to cash-flow problems. And playing in empty gyms, wearing masks and doing plague tests before practice/games and all the other crap made it the toughest season I've ever encountered - and I doubt there are many people involved in the leagues that operated who would argue. But, hey, you clearly loved it not having to leave your armchair :shrug £4M from DCMS allowed basketball players and club employees to earn a living for a season behind closed doors As expected and predicted by many NOT one spectator attended any of the games Not sure how many UK basketball fans actually watched any of the games from home either? Was it money well spent? I guess it helped players and employees pay their bills and mortgages at least and kept the interest going for some But i genuinely wonder what percentage of spectators who attended a Riders match the previous season know Riders won the league or the season even happened? I doubt it's much more than 20 per cent of them But well done for the clubs for backing the Govt into a corner to paying the player and employee salaries etc for a season Fair play to them for that Whilst the other sports just mothballed/delayed And Riders finally got a league MVP as well! So I'm going to say it was money well spent? Lol

Not quite true that no spectators attended any games. Cheshire managed at least one game with a limited number of spectators present.

I stand corrected I'm sure a few others sneaked in at times as well I was tempted to get out of my armchair a couple of times to have a go Anyone on here get into any BBL games?

On a number of occasions Riders looked to have a good crowd going on the near side seating. Wonder how that came about

Do you think the club overdid it with the 50/50 each game as well? Mind you thats the first time I've won for a while Wink emoji

Cheshire actually had spectators allowed for two games in December 2020 when Cheshire West was in a lower Covid area.I was at both as part of the Covid secure team temperature checking crowd. As a community club all the preparation, line taping (and untaping) and court set up is done by volunteers. During this past season this was done rota basis to prevent too many attending.

What a stunning development. you've turned a thread about the demise of Worcester into one about Riders and the plague. With little regard for facts

Thanks for your article on Universities, I thought it was interesting. Having moved to Worcester 4 years ago, (and having supported other BBL teams where I was living), it was good to have a city where you could have a conversation with people about basketball, rather than football. Its quite a big basketball community, and I will not be the only person to be sad about this. In my oppinion, the University should have opened the door for a take over, or at least attempted to involved the fans and see if any finances could be found. My respect for the University is now zero It's interesting that, after your rant at me, you come around to my way of thinking about how U of W have utterly shafted basketball fans in Worcester. Unlike Northumbria when they packed up, I'm genuinely disappointed that your club is gone. It's as if they didn't want anyone else to make a success of it.

Are the words too long for you? Try Janet and John It just didn’t make sense on reading it. No need for insults mate. Also 4 sentences starting with And? My A-Level English teacher would be having kittens seeing that 😂🙌🏽
