I presume it’s based on us sending our 3 best basketball players whilst the other countries send relative nobodies….
Anyway just watching the Slovenia v Argentina game. Hersey - you are so right about the commentator. Shocking. He lost me when he said Doncic corner 3 was a score from Low Post……
Also though…Luis Scola! Still balling at 41. Respect

Probably the last time well see Scola and Pau Gasol on the international stage and I fully intend to enjoy it whilst it lasts!

If GB ain't in it then they don't care
In all seriousness it's behind the paywall that is Discovery+

Have the BBC not shown any of it thus far? Bbc only have the rights for a maximum of 2 sports at a time so are concentrating on sports with British interest

Have the BBC not shown any of it thus far? Nah, BBC have limited rights this year and can only show 2 live events at a time. Basketball would be lucky to get much coverage if GB were playing, definitely won't be getting any with no British interest. Discovery have the full rights to stream everything, BBC piggyback off of their feeds i believe. Edit: essentially what ridecolt said. great minds etc

I am sure they will show the final if the USA get there. I recall what a pleasant surprise it was to watch the Dreamteam matches back in 92. At that time NBA basketball was hard to come by so to get the chance to see the best in the business (in admittedly one sided games) was great. The only downside was the awful commentary by Stuart Storey!! Not that it has improved much with some of the ones being used on Eurosport/Discovery absolutely useless (as Hersey has pointed out).
There really is no excuse for it but I am equally sure there are people from other sports who are suffering in the same way!
I enjoyed watching the Spain v Japan game. Japan were really playing well in the 1st quarter and a crowd would have been a big assistance to them and may have made it more interesting. So many of that Spanish team have played together in these tournaments for years. Almost like a club side!

Just discovered Sky Channel 986 ( eurosport 6) is dedicated completely to basketball. I didn't even know it existed! Looks like it 24hr a day mix of highlights and live games. Also the BBC did show France vs USA live on the red button last Sunday.

Oooops sounding as clueless as some other posters on here ( names not released to protect the guilty ).

on virgin ch540 is currently the dedicated one for olympic basketball under the eurosport banner a number of other popup Eurosport channels are there as well for example handball and judo have one right now - i assume as events end and others start the channels will change what they are dedicated to
someone mentioned how bbc have less and the extended options this time are behind a paywall of discovery+ I have not paid extra to get all the popup eurosport channels, they have just appeared as part of the package I am on that does include eurosport 1 +2 - so technically I am watching behind a paywall, but I am not paying for these channels just glad someone mentioned on a whatsbev thread that these exist - as otherwise I would not have known I had them all

Pathetic that as a Sky customer I wasn't informed in advance. Just shows again how poorly basketball is treated by the media in terms of coverage and reporting games.

Australia Italy was a battle. Thybulle, Landale and Kay dragged the Boomers over the line. Really enjoyed watching Thybulle in the games so far.

Awful, sometimes non existent commentary for basketball coverage that’s hidden away.
Meanwhile on BBC One there’s a commentator crying over a dancing horse. Literally.

I can appreciate that. Just not the tears. The commentator is involved in the sport and with the medalllist - it’s the Olympics - it’s emotive - that’s what sport is all about. I’m sure if GB basketball got to that level there’d be a few tears from those directly involved also. I was at the Ball Out in Finsbury Park the other day and saw some tears from family members there ( and that’s about as un Olympics in terms of everything as you can imagine 😂

Just don’t think I could ever look at a horse doing a foxtrot and need w few tissues, Olympics or not. But each to their own.

To be honest the one eyed cheer leading style of the BBC team can be a bit much. I think there is a balance they can achieve by clearly wanting Team GB success but not going full on fan mode!
The SKY/Virgin channel thing is an interesting one. I wonder if in order to be able to provide these things on the SKY Q APP they have to be allocated a channel? It does not seem to be like that for Netflix or Prime but maybe its due to it being live? No idea but glad as the ability to record the games (thanks Hersey) is a real benefit with the time they are on.

I think that was the case at times but it was nothing in comparison to the Olympics. I think there is an attitude that Olympians are all Plucky amateurs and that’s almost never the case anymore. Yes they are not multi millionaire football players but they are elite professional athletes.

Meanwhile the Scottish Press where rather unsubtley supporting anyone England met in the group stage. Anyway, some thoughts about the TV coverage.

Anyway, some thoughts about the TV coverage. That's a bid rude suggesting BBC are playing for second place; although I didn't get past the title in fairness.
