DTB. I cannot take the credit it was a team effort. I mentioned it was on the Discovery + App but it was actually Hersey who told me it was on 986 (in his blog. I think you read it from time to time?) Also SolentKestrels mentioned it in this very thread already.
What a game!! Luka was clearly hampered shooting wise. Cannot believe it was a lack of confidence or the defence that made him so reluctant to shoot as game went on. That block by Batum was sensational! Clean as a whistle. Slovenia have been magnificent and from a neutral perspective it is hard to know who to root for in the bronze medal games. It feels like the Aussies are due a medal but Slovenia have been a breath of fresh air.
So can the French once again upset the USA? I've got to say I hope so!

Funny to read these anti USA comments on here. Especially since everybody knows that if we brought out our best players, no one would ever win anything, ever!

Oh Drunky. You'd have found that out ten days ago if you'd read my blog. Who knows what else you'd have learned about British basketball?
Anyway, I never thought I'd be so gutted about Slovenia losing a game. I'm off for a little cry

Well its certainly an unusual experience rooting for the French that's for sure but Anti USA? I'm not anti the USA. Its just more fun to support the underdog in these situations (i.e. when GB are nowhere to be seen). The USA do not play a particularly attractive brand of basketball. Heavily isolation dependent and reliant on streaky shooting.
You are correct though. With a more team orientated approach to team selection (as opposed to some poor mans ASG squad) and more time to prepare there is no doubt that the USA would win. However a lot of your players don't care enough to represent their country and pick and choose. Look at the other squads. The pride, the passion. Dragging aging bodies to every tournament to represent their home nation. That is what Lillard meant when he said players were different when they were playing for their country. Your best players prioritise playing for the Toon Squad.
So Vive La France.

I'm quite happy for the USA to win but it's just nice that it isn't a certainty. The tournament as a whole has been richer for it. Every game feels a little more important...

Funny to read these anti USA comments on here. Especially since everybody knows that if we brought out our best players, no one would ever win anything, ever! No one stopped them turning up. I wonder how many of the current roster would play one armed and clearly in pain. But, as I've said before, the NBA could have helped the team. No one made them have a pointless All-Star Break in a truncated season and they didn't need to keep dropping second rest days into the Finals series. There was an extra week available for prep if they cared. The fact that the NBA wanted to play on through the Olympics speaks volumes. I'm not sure I can bring myself to cheer on the cheese eating surrender monkeys, though

So NBA teams will discourage playing in the Olympics and FIBA World Cup so we can watch more "Battle of the Super Teams". NCAA has so much better narrative and basketball and if I'm still here next year, can't wait to see Kentucky v Michigan at the O2! Now that will be worthwhile!!!

Is that due to be in November? I was looking to buy tickets before plague hit. I don't think the NBA will crash and burn. It's just too big and has far too much money. And much as I love college, it has many problems of its own. Some thoughts from today.

I take your point about the all star weekend though.

Results don’t lie and they deserved the victory. After that slay start losing to France they slowly got their act together. They looked so vulnerable at times and the French seemed to have the right idea but couldn’t execute it well enough in the final.
Hats off to Patty Mills. What a player he is for Australia. I’ve not seen that game but hard to begrudge the Aussies a medal. They’ve been tough competitors in the Olympics for a while now.

My Olympic All Star 5 would be - Mills, Luka, KD, Batum, Gobert. Honourable mentions to Tobey, Ingles, Fournier, Scola and Rubio.

Rubio should be in instead of Batum but I thought that block Alone was worth entry to my 5
