Anyway, some thoughts about the TV coverage. That's a bid rude suggesting BBC are playing for second place; although I didn't get past the title in fairness. Even when he's talking about the Olympics, Kestrels budget comes up! Ha Ha!

to recap - I said I understood now what the attraction to tv was of the 3v3 format I did not then sit down and watch other games after the initial ones i saw. I di though the other day watch the Russia Latvia final - it was brutal. thank goodness it is so short and quickly over.
So brutal and physical, It did remind me of some local league and chairman's cup games I've seen or been involved in

I'm taking some u14s to the Newcastle 3x3 tomorrow. I've warned them to expect a more physical brand of basketball with referees told to go easy on the whistle to keep the games chugging on. Certainly my 3v3 days back in the 90s were heavily influenced by movies of the era like WMCJ with a lot of trash talking and physical play!

In terms of commentators I was watching the Slovenia v Japan game I believe and the commentator was actually the best I'd heard.
Some of the basketball has been really good to watch. I am finding it so refreshing to see the FIBA game instead of NBA but played by top level players. Its been great to watch and the NBA should take note.......

I've got three hours of it this Sunday and some more next week, It'll be interesting to compare it with "normal" basketball at the same age group. It would be interesting to see top level seriously players playing 3-on-3. Maybe it would be better. Some thoughts about this coming weekend. Warning, not only am I incapable of linking properly, spell check appears to have packed up. Good luck!

I don`t like 3 vs 3 really, its a sort of Basketball for morons since there is not a whole lot of options so it breaks down into 1 vs 1 then go rebound with your elbows out.
Maybe a bit harsh but its not a Basketball equivalent of Crickets 20 - 20
Looks more like a bar room brawl type of game to me

Def don’t take kids to it judging by the behaviour we witnessed the other day. Language, attitude and crowds smoking weed on sidelines wasn’t good :-(

My god Team USA are hard work to watch! Comfortable win in the end but for nearly 3 quarters the Czech team made them look like the disjointed bunch of strangers that they appear to be! It almost feels their best bet in the future might be finding the best NBA team that has the most Americans and using them as the core!
If they are going to prepare this poorly they will continue to struggle.
They are a poor 3pt shooting game away from another less than anticipated medal….

Mens 1/4 Line Up is -
Herseys Slovenia v Germany USA v Spain Italy v France Australia v Argentina
I've highlighted my picks for the teams to progress and I've gone for Spain to upset this very wobbly USA team. Would I put money on it......probably not! The USA are the most talented team by some margin on an individual basis.
I think the winner of USA v Spain plays the winner of Aus v Argentina. I therefore think Hersey's boys could be playing most likely and therefore a decent shot at a medal.
The basketball has been great at times although there have been some one sided games. The womens competition has been really competitive.

USA had their usual early troubles but Durant came alive to help them win comfortably in the end. Semi finals- USA vs Australia and Slovenia vs France. Two great match ups and all 4 of these teams has a shot at gold. I think I will edge towards the USA but with little conviction. Anything could happen from here...

Spain really had them rocking until late in the second quarter when the USA steals started racking up and the 3s falling down. There was a key missed lay-up by Claver at end of 2nd and two more at the beginning of the 3rd that felt so critical at the time. NOt sure how many minutes the Spanish went without a hoop but the Americans got that confidence boost and played the type of basketball that best suits them. I thought it was telling that they forced Spain into smaller and smaller line ups and neither Gasol scored.
I did not expect Slovenia to win so comfortably, that France Italy would be that close either. I did think the Aussies would be way too strong for an ageing Argentinian side and so it proved.
Still some great basketball to come. I think Team USA have finally settled down and barring a really horrible shooting performance will be in the final but it will not be easy. It would have been even harder if Baynes was not injured.
Logic tells me France but Herseys boy seems to have his heart set on Olympic Gold......

I was setting my sky recorder for the remaining games and noticed that the gold medal game is scheduled before the bronze game. Just found out this is to ensure the final is prime time for tv audiences in the USA. Usual American overconfidence!

had the chance to see the 2nd half of one of the women's quarter finals this morning: Belgium v Japan
you'd think international players would no better - inside last 90secs and player beats the defender and drives to basket, so defender wraps her arms round the players shoulders to stop her and then looks shocked when ref not just calls a foul but makes it an Unsportsmanlike. Well doh you left the ref no choice, you made no attempt at the ball.
shooter scores both, team with the bonus of keep position moves the ball well and scores another layup and takes the lead of the 4pt play!!
people will remember the loosing team had the last shot and it never fell - a silly U turned the game, not the last shot.
Was a good game to watch.

Just found out this is to ensure the final is prime time for tv audiences in the USA. Usual American overconfidence! To be fair, I've been amazed at some of the scheduling for the USA games; Sticking them on at 12.50 EST when they could have had the 22.00EST game seems madness. So maybe the TV companies can call this one. I like that entire nation are now known as Hersey's Slovenia. I need a statue, I hope that Luka does get one. Some more thoughts.

Picking the USA is too easy Hersey :-) As you say in the blog though the Spanish are looking old but I do like the way they play. It is hard to admire anything about the Americans play other than the individual brilliance of their players. As a team they are poor. I am sure with some more consideration to building an actual team and then some more time together they could still dominate any Olympic competition. As a wise man said earlier....everyone has NBA players now.....but not everyone has 12 of them!!

Given what I've read I am going to presume that anyone remotely interested in this thread has watched this mornings USA v Australia Games.
IT was spooky how it turned out much like the USA v Spain game! A strong start by the Australians who were playing the far better team basketball for most the first half. Then the athleticism and individual talent of the USA just seems to finally take its toll. I think what I have not given the USA credit for is probably how hard they are to guard and therefore how hard the opponents are working. Therefore when they are fresh they can do it but the minute that effort takes its toll the gaps open up and the USA are able to make their individual talent tell. I really felt for the Australian players as the USA defence came to life, deflections, steals, blocks all resulting in layups and 3s and before you know it the game looks like a blow out. The score line is not reflective to me of how the game looked to the eye but at the end of the day once they galvanise around KD it does appear they have enough in the tank. Fingers crossed for a rematch with France now (sorry Hersey!)......they seem to have a bit of a mental edge on the USA and maybe the only ones who can sustain a challenge over 40 mins. I just feel Slovenia's reliance on Luka will be something the NBA players will be able to deal with better.
Lets see!

Some of it Eurosport, all of it Discovery +. I have been told BBC did have some on the red button but they have a very limited coverage agreement. Therefore broadly speaking its the first 2. France Slovenia on on live now.
If you are SKY Q customer Discovery + is free for a year and the basketball is on its own channel 986
