So the league doesn’t help retain a major market and it shows the inevitable decline of the league.
And the league does help retain a major market and it shows a lack of professionalism.
basketball kits going to basketball kit I suppose.

That should have read the T word (obviously not permitted and replaced by basketball kits?)

So the Raiders branding and IP doesn't carry over to the new franchise? So basically, you have new owners, new branding and new team tee'd up to play in less than 2 months? And the BBL is fine with that? Herein lies the lack of professionalism. Seems desperate to me and will likely fail. Wasn't the Raiders in the BBL for a couple of DECADES? And if so, to just casually let it go just doesn't make any sense. What about the Raiders fans? They just start to follow the Plymouth XYZ Team? Crazy!! Mad isn't it, Imagine going to support your team in the same country, in the same city, in the same venue. Absolutely ludicrous what the bbl are pulling here, so glad I've still got my local team the Vancouver Grizzles to watch....

Its looks shady af and weak of the league. Why not spend proper time doing a proper rebranding instead of rushing out a new team. Sitting a year out and doing it right wouldn't be a bad thing and since Covid will still wreck havoc on ticket sales, sitting out, building the new brand, with a new place to play would be prudent.

Yep, however the Grizzlies moving to Memphis was well planned and didn't happen in a few months!

Good job we're not moving at all, a rebrand takes as long as the graphics guy to make a logo.
Seriously, what do you think takes time in this?

Well it mirrors what happened at Chester and they have done alright. The key issue is to have a basketball team in the city whatever it's called. I'm sure that's how the fans feel.

The league in normal cases decides what city to grant franchises to. The league would also own all IP, trademarks etc. Case in point, if a new team crops up in Seattle, it will be known the Seattle Supersonics as the NBA owns the brand. The perception of stability and continuity may not be important to fans of the BBL, I don't know. But seems to be such a waste that a club that has been around a generation, isn't allowed to continue through change of ownership because the league failed to secure ownership of its club brands and IP. Simple.

Who knows, they may adopt that model now. But comparing the NBA and BBL is like apples and oranges

comparing NBA and BBL is really like comparing apples and penguins. and irrelevant
this is not a rebrand, it's a new franchise at a venue that has successfully staged BBL basketball before.
if only Drunky's mate would finally get around to starting league to show us how to do it. 17 years is a long time

Ownership of the Sonic brand and it’s history is an NBA property. Fact.

Really, I don’t hang out with people that old, including you Hersey! New franchise with 2 months to go? Seems a bit rushed and not carefully thought out. I remember the praise the Turkish guy got when he invested, now you turn on him because he didn’t want to lose money forever!! Seems about right for British basketball. As long as there are foreign suckers to sink money into the league, it’s all good. Let’s see how long 777 keeps throwing money away!

no. but it's a £50+ grand cpurt case if Raiders owners wanted to fight it. the risk would be a temporary injunction screwing things up.

Ice Hockey! Plymouth Raiders been around for a long time, to downplay them not continuing as a brand goes against any marketing 101 that I know of!

Plymouth City Patriots. Quite liking the colour scheme Colour scheme is about the only positive. Not a fan of the name (any relevance or just a random alliterative choice?) and the logo is as if they’ve just googled “cool designz”. Very generic.

So on a lighter note what’s the club to be called, If the set up has been rushed, maybe players brought in that the unknown coach has not picked and perhaps a lot smaller player budget.... I’ll go for Plymouth Butlins Because if the above is true then Plymouth’s season will be over in October just like Butlins.

Colour scheme is similar to Glasgow and surrey. Zero relevance to Plymouth in name or appearance. I think it’s pretty crap tbh. But hey, we still have basketball in Plymouth. I would not be surprised if there is a rebrand
