Vince Carter sings on with Hawks for his 21st season on a $2.4m one year deal. 21 years of NBA basketball! NBAs oldest current player. Fair play to him. He must love the game or seriously have spent a lot of money :-)

I thought he had a 2 year deal with the Kings, guess not. He seems to be on a quest to find the worst team he possibly can to finish his career with! Very unusual to see - veterans who are winding down do usually end up on the bench of a contending team but Vince obviously feels supporting and guiding young players is more worthwhile.

I think it is a version of penance that he is inflicting on himself :-) He was notorious in his days with the Raps and the Nets for crying off with questionable injuries when things were not going well. He has grown up, realised just what a great job he has and thought lets keep it rolling. Good for him but as you say, find a better team Vince!

No matter what though, he will surely be best remembered for that slam dunk contest. Still the greatest performance across all dunks that I've seen. His 360 windmill was in the same category as Jordan's shot that beat Utah in the 1998 finals - you remember exactly where you were, you remember leaving your seat and jumping around the room at stupid o'clock in the morning, and watching it back a zillion times without it getting boring. I think that dunk combined with the others being almost as great, at a time where they were all innovative and new and ahead of their time, just made it a special moment. We have seen more impressive dunks since but nothing that's had the same wow factor, if that makes sense!
For me 1998/99 was a great time to watch the NBA with both Vince and Jason Williams coming in bringing such exciting styles of play. You don't really get that anymore sadly.

To realise how iconic it was - just think of the top three things that come into your head when you think Slam dunk contest.
He's at least joint top.

I've only seen the highlights of him and Sacramento Kings on youtube but wow what a player and what a team to watch! "If you don't like that - you don't like NBA basketball!"

Interesting that they pulled out from a bidding war - I wonder who will be covering it then? Sounds hopeful it will be on a network at least, I remember the days where it was often bleak and you'd end up with minimal coverage on 5 or ITV2. Not that I've watched it on TV for years, League Pass all the way - but it's important there is TV exposure for the wider audience and casual fans.

Ridersfan - yep, the Williams highlight videos are always good for a watch. I can't think of anyone even remotely like him in the game now. Possibly because there is more emphasis on shooting from long range and guard fundamentals - indeed, when Hubie Brown coached Williams in Memphis, he basically coached the life and soul out of Williams and he started to play like a normal point guard. He was better for it as a player, but as fans we lost seeing those thrill moments he used to just come up with out of nowhere.

This sucks will anybody else get it instead? No NBA coverage would be a massive blow for this country

I think it will be on Elevensports, but would be great if Freesports got it. I've said a few times, NBA deserves the coverage and attention that the NFL is given

American football is the most boring sport I've ever watched, its actually dismal. And I've sat through 5 day cricket tests back in the uni days.

See I have bt sport but due to work the only games I can watch is the Sunday at 8 games due to the other games being on a stupid o'clock in the morning!! Especially some games at east like the warriors and Lakers regularly tip off at 4!! Do you think the viewing figures are there? And id hope if someone took over the coverage would show a repeat maybe at 5? So people who can't stay up all night can see it?

Thats what Sky Sports used to do, have a next day repeat that also cut out all the time outs and stuff, they condensed it into a 2 hour broadcast. Makes sense really as not many people will stay up to watch the live games at night.

It says stopping end of October, NBA season doesnt start till then more or less Perfect timing for them then to save shelling out for next season The only thing I watch on there is a bit of NBA and the UFC. I guess I've watched the odd football game but wouldn't keep it just for those. Happy enough with what sky offers for football. So I will cancel. I assume I can straight away as I've had it over a season already?

BT Sport seems to be really bottoming out. I luckily have not renewed yet and will be in a dilemma as big Rugby Union fan too. Realistically I think I will Ditch BT and go league pass but I’d love to see NBA on some sort of free to air TV again to widen the viewing even more.
A live game of the week plus a couple of recorded games all with the host broadcast commentary on Freeview would be great for the game.

The one thing I miss from the old ESPN and ITV2 days is the magazine show 'NBA Action' (no idea if its even still produced or not though) especially the top 10 plays of the week!

Ok I will try that for next season - I think I tried before but could only find old ones or ones in foreign languages! Or are you just referring to the top 10 plays of the week? Because there always seem to be varieties of those around, most of the time I find it'll be the top 10 plays from one team or some such rubbish!

Normally current and in English. I haven't looked for them for 12 months plus though tbh
