Those referees from the south ruined the game đ¤ Sounds about right LOL. But they are better refs than the Scottish ones, I'm told. Depending on your definition of Scottish.

Such a poor game game, the best team this season won. Ladies game was much better glad we got there to see that otherwise would of been a bad day back from our win in Bristol. Best parts were the huge balls, no not Saintpats, bouncing around the crowd. Also that miss call on the deflection was funny when it got played on big screen with Rocks coach doing his nut and ref not looking. Suppose if a game could of had replays that was it, wouldnt of caused anymore delays than the crap with the shot clocks. Hope Rocks play this bad next Sunday but knowing us the side that done Riders will turn up. Least Pat will be happy for rest of season

DC hit the nail on the head in the refs thread, different refs give different outcomes as they are not consistent. Here is the FIBA rule on Illegal screens for example and if I`m the Rocks coach I will talk to the refs before the game then yell at them every time its not called as Lions gain an unfair advantage and did it all game long, anyway read on
33.7. Screening: Legal and illegal Screening is an attempt to delay or prevent an opponent without the ball from reaching a desired position on the playing court. Legal screening is when the player who is screening an opponent: ďˇ Was stationary (inside his cylinder) when contact occurred. ďˇ Had both feet on the floor when contact occurred. Illegal screening is when the player who is screening an opponent: ďˇ Was moving when contact occurred. ďˇ Did not give sufficient distance in setting a screen outside the field of vision of a stationary opponent when contact occurred. ďˇ Did not respect the elements of time and distance of an opponent in motion when contact occurred.
October 2017 OFFICIAL BASKETBALL RULES 2017 Page 39 of 90 If the screen is set within the field of vision of a stationary opponent (front or lateral), the screener may establish the screen as close to him as he wishes, provided there is no contact. If the screen is set outside the field of vision of a stationary opponent, the screener must permit the opponent to take 1 normal step towards the screen without making contact. If the opponent is in motion, the elements of time and distance shall apply. The screener must leave enough space so that the player who is being screened is able to avoid the screen by stopping or changing direction. The distance required is never less than 1 and never more than 2 normal steps. A player who is legally screened is responsible for any contact with the player who has set the screen. 33.8. Charging Charging is illegal personal contact, with or without the ball, by pushing or moving into an opponentâs torso.
LOOK AT THE PICKS BRISTOL SETS FOR ROBINSON, CLEARLY OUTSIDE HIS CYLINDER AND MOVING ON LOTS OF OCCASIONS THEN LOOK AT THE FOUL ON COOK FROM THE SUNS IN THE FIRST QTR OF THE WBBL FINAL, LOOKS LIKE A DIFFERENT GAME
HOW THE GAME IS CALLED CHANGES THE GAME AND ITS INCONSISTENT, HENCE STUPID TECH FOULS AND ODD OUTCOMES ODD BAD CALLS HERE AND THERE ARE TO BE EXPECTED (HAPPENS IN ALL LEAGUES) BUT PATTERNS OF CALLS DICTATES HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED REFS ALLOWED TOO MUCH PHYSICAL PLAY TODAY POOR SPECTACLE ARRGGHHH PLUS BOTH TO TEAMS STRUGGLED TO SHOOT WITH NO OBVIOUS REASONS WHY

Rocks deserved nothing and got nothing today. A well deserved win for Lions. Congrats to them - I hope their fans thoroughly enjoy it!
Bit of a confusing weekend for Rocks fans. Did we turn a corner? Are Lions simply too good for everyone? Genuinely don't know anymore.
A very disappointing and underwhelming day.

Are Lions simply too good for everyone? Genuinely don't know anymore. A very disappointing and underwhelming day. Expected a lot more from Rocks today but it seemed like heads went down early and lions ground it out. Recent form has been encouraging and I think weâll make the playoffs. 15/16 wins should be enough. We'll manage that. Underwhelming is probably the right word. The shot clock shambles, the annoying tit with the microphone calling the game, the t-shirt cannon they struggled to fire (did they fire it more than once?) and getting beat by a team that only managed 68 points.

Couldnât match the lions physically and looked to me to have bottled it in the first quarter. Shooting was woeful. Officiating poor (the deflection that went out of bounds?)
Neutral venue? Was like an away game.End of the day if you put up 20 first half points you donât deserve to win. Did playing Friday have a negative effect? Who knows but it certainly doesnât appear to have helped. I didn't see all the game, but Rocks were woeful in the bit I did see. How often is a double-digit loss down to the refs?
Where do you suggest for a neutral venue?

I understand it doesn't make for a great spectacle but the Lions have come up short when it's mattered before and you're giving yourself the best chance of winning if you keep your opponent to 2 points in the opening 5 minutes, 20 at the half and 54 at full time. Some stats really bring home where this game was won: * Lions shot just 3/26 from 3pt range (Spencer and Robinson 2/17). * Lions outrebounded 50-37. * Bristol played 31:45, far more than he often plays in a league game, and had 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and the highest +/- of any player (+22). * Lions had 22 second chance points. * Achara was the only Rocks player to get to the line (4 attempts). I may well watch this one back on iPlayer so I'll have a better view of those no-calls I've seen discussed here. So happy to see my team win something and share it with the fans I've followed this team alongside. I get that The O2 works on a certain level, but the Birmingham arena allows for fans to make more noise and be much closer to the bench/court. It was just brilliant for the players to be able to celebrate with the trophy right in front of us, and for Vince and the players to acknowledge individual fans and friends. A few other points to respond to: How much did the Riders game take out of our players?? We will never know. We won't, although Dan Routledge did look into the times it's happened before. Neutral venue? Was like an away game. Certainly more backing for Lions in the arena, although I'm guessing most had never been to the Copper Box. Whether they were supporting Lions because they were the English team or the favourites/league leaders/ahead in the game or just liked the name/colours/mascot/Vince's jacket, I don't know, but it's not like this venue is on Lions' doorstep. As Hersey asked, where would a neutral venue be? And one in which none of those potential factors I listed would count? That deflection off a Lions player late in the game that was clear for all to see and awarding the ball to them when should have been a Rocks ball was one of the worst calls I have seen. It was played on the big screen seconds after so they should have took a second before making the decision final. If thatâs not what they do in games then it should be. Had no baring on the game but imagine if it had, if it was a 2 point game or tied. That shouldnât be allowed to happen and in another game that could have been costly. One ref openly told the other that they didn't see it and asked for their view. It was one call and they had to guess it. I can't actually tell if you were suggesting the refs should have watched the big screen to see the replay but there's no way they can do that for some calls and not others depending on what the TV director chooses to show. The shot clock shambles, the annoying tit with the microphone calling the game, the t-shirt cannon they struggled to fire (did they fire it more than once?) I really don't know how the shot clock issue happened. I don't remember any issues with it in the women's final beforehand (which was a thrilling game, by the way.) The very first T-shirt cannon shot didn't work. They brought it out several times and it worked well.

Dont get me going on that cannon DC...when the cheerleaders were doing it there was a few shirts given out but that f..kwit mascot running around arena with cannon taunting crowd only released one each time. Play had started on one occasion and he was still pissing around.

Absolutely dreadful game! Did nothing for the promoting the game, where as the Women's final................. Ah but not every game is there to 'promote the game' though is it? Surely this for the 2 clubs was about winning silverware? The crowd looked big and sounded loud on the telly so that's surely good for the game I guess? I don't suppose many non-basketball viewers (the unconverted) would have watched it anyway? It's not easy to stumble on things on the red button!

Ladies and gentlemen, just celebrate the win! Well done to Lions, 11 years is a long time to wait and for my money they thoroughly deserved it. It may not have been the thriller that the WBBL game was but it's a big occasion and Rocks looked completely overawed in the first half. The combination of Bristol and Peel was something Rocks just couldn't figure out and only 10 buckets in the first half says it all really. Personally I would have handed Vince the trophy for the jacket alone! Well done Lions..

I'm obviously blind to the poor refs, I thought the game was poor not the refs. Refs will never win no matter what they call. "Too tough", "not tough enough"
As for the venue, it's a great arena and I loved going there last year. Worcester outnumbered us but didn't stop us making the most racket.
Finally congrats to Lions and their supporters, loving seeing how much it meant to them....Vince's dancing ace.
I just hope for the sake of Rock's fans that they win a trophy soon too.

Well done Lions.
Rocks once again piss poor combined with Lions being just too good. I canât see us beating Plymouth and getting to the Trophy final, but one can hope.
Donât think I even feel disappointed. Iâm very shrug of the shoulders oh well no surprise!

Interesting fact Lions are the 1st London based team to win major silverware (BBL) since Towers Towers 2000/01/02 - southern conference ... and 2000 Trophy or have I missed anyone ? Dairylea Dunkers Championship ... Always makes me a giggle

Dairylea Dunkers Championship ... Always makes me a giggle I hadnât really thought about it, but yes I think youâre right. Of course Lions also won the Cup in 2008, but based in Milton Keynes so I guess youâre right to exclude that. As for the Dairylea Dunkers Championship⌠I remember it well. I eve won a Dairylea Dunkers Championship t-shirt in a competition run by The Sun. A rare example of where perhaps having no sponsor is better than having a sponsor.

Really? I think it's neat enough branding. Surprising to me that the competitions don't have title sponsors now.

Oh donât get me wrong, a basketball league sponsored by Dairylea Dunkers⌠thatâs genius. But trying to get a minority league to be taken more seriously when itâs called the âDairylea Dunkers Championshipâ isnât exactly going to be easy. It made British basketballâs premier league sound like some sort of childrenâs summer camp competition. The 'Carlsberg Basketball League' and the 'Budweiser Basketball League' just sounded more professional... and I don't drink the stuff (but ironically I am partial to a Dairylea Dunker occasionally!)

If a sponsor is prepared to put millions into the my club... they can re-brand the team anyway they want I have this dream of me sitting in my seat at the ECA ... then all of a sudden over the tannoy comes ... Howard yelling loudly ... "Welcome to your Greggs Steak Bake Eagles Newcastle ... purveyor of fine pastries and sundries" Who needs ... chuck a duck ... when you can ... chuck a doughnut Half court Stottie throw ... where the Prize is ... Err! ... a large Stottie or maybe all of this ... is just in my disturbed mind
edit Can I just say ... before Tigger comes on here and tells me off ... I'm joking ... other veggie/healthy options are available
