Also, I think they know they’re still working on getting this service right, so give it away for free for a season or two and then introduce a charge (£5-£10 a month?) once the league is a bit more established and the service is of a higher standard. Hopefully it doesn’t go the other way, and they put less effort into making the streams now they have fans back and it is free. Definitely improved in (most) clubs cases as the season went on. Hopefully it won’t. They should know it only works well as good promotion, even if given away for free, if the coverage is of acceptable quality.

Halfway through the 2nd qtr, and still the scoreboard is totally wrong in the Eagles vs Sharks game.
What an absolute screw-up !!!

Would’ve been great to be able to watch the end of the Sharks Newc game.
Still, at least it’s free.
Better than £20 a month eh?

Thought you did a great job keeping us up to date with the score and time left Agreed, "discombobulated" summed Eagles up in first half. As for BBL player, it is not fit for purpose. The quality of the stream is poor, fine on a phone, okay on a laptop but casting to the TV and the picture quality is terrible. Then there are the constant drop outs. A couple of times Dave E said "that was a wonderful move by..." Was it? I don't know because the stream dropped for a few seconds. I don't think it is the cameras as Eagles YouTube games pre BBL player are much clearer when cast and no drop outs. On the plus side at least the player didn't crash this time but it is not a good advert for the game. I have no issues streaming/casting anything else.

I watched the Flyers/Lions game to tonight… it was the first Flyers TV coverage I’ve seen as last season they went it alone and weren’t part of the BBL Player. But this year it is, and I have to say I was really impressed. If other teams want an example of how coverage should be produced they should look at what Flyers are doing.

Why isn’t there a league standard then? If flyers have sussed it why can’t every venue do likewise

Excellent coverage by Flyers, except when I lost connection for a couple of minutes. All other clubs need to aim for at least their quality.

Trying to watch Lions v Scorchers tonight, having cleared my evening to do so.
I am so fed up with the constant unreliability and issues using this platform. First of all, there was no stream. Now there is a stream but it’s a crap picture, no commentary and keeps freezing every 30 seconds on average.
It is irrelevant that the product is free to view. This is so poor and just embarrassing from the league, it reflects so badly on the BBL and makes British basketball look so amateur to any newcomers.
If this was the first, second or third time I’d been unable to watch a match, I’d probably let it slide. But I think I encounter issues on a lot more games than I don’t. I know some clubs, like Bristol and Surrey last season, do a decent job but how are there no minimum standards for this sort of thing?
Last time I bother actually making time to watch a game through this absolutely dog **** platform from the BBL.

I think this is the first time they’ve used the automated camera at the Copper Box (unfortunately). Picture quality isn’t great, but apart from that I’ve had no issues (I’m watching via the Amazon Fire TV app). It’s a real shame there’s no commentary though.
But I agree with your general point. The typical coverage available on BBL Player is poor, and does the league no favours what so ever.

What on earth…! Lost coverage a few minutes into the final quarter, it’s now back, with with an actual camera operator, multiple cameras, and commentary!
Were they trialing the automated camera and accidentally put that feed on the BBL Player?

Were they trialing the automated camera and accidentally put that feed on the BBL Player? I noticed that. Surrey had the same issue at a couple of games last season. The stream would randomly default to the automated camera despite a proper camera operating on the night. It’s a shame for the commentators if three quarters of coverage and analysis went unheard because of someone’s cock-up, be it at Lions or the BBL. I’m just so tired of setting aside time to watch games and not being able to, in part or at all. The BBL need to decide if clubs are going to take the product seriously or not - because if they’re not, just ditch it. It looks completely amateur.

I find it better using the web page not the app. This is fine on laptop or phone but picture quality drops significantly when cast to TV. The app is pretty much unwatchable.

Just some random info some people may or may not be interested in... Nunchee, the OTT streaming platform that the BBL Player utilises was recently acquired by 777 Partners - the same 777 Partners that own the London Lions and are (still) looking to invest and become 50% owners of the BBL. www.nunchee.com/www.777part.com/portfolio/nunchee/Nothing more to add. I just found it interesting.
