A couple of questions/notes.
Did/has Spencer got things wrong, name of venue? Everyone knows it as Ponds Forge. Ok as sharks we have given it the tag #tank but what did he call it? What feed was Dan on? YouTube had John Timms ( as usual and a part of mls) and Philip Brown, a sharks fan and stat man, friends of Dan and who many would have seen home and away as a young lad video shark games.
Mike Shaft wasnt there so Yuri who normally is the 2nd guy (when you can hear him) on commentary did Mike's job on mic and he is the one you can hear making the announcements.
Neither of John or Philip indicated at any time that the game should/would be stopped. They did get one call wrong (I think it was Phil) when a riders player slipped and Rob went mad with Phil saying Rob was looking for a foul for a push. So not even identifying that there was a slip nevermind an issue with the floor.
But I've made 3 posts, more than I have for a long time and I only came on to look at some of the posts and get a general feeling of fans of other teams.
To me, I hope, the game will be replayed with no blame to anyone. It will be restarted from nil nil as in the riders/royals game.
A little hope that teams will play with the same players available as in the original game (as muted in the giants/rocks game). Very unlikely though.
All the rest is just hearsay and guess work.

Don’t know how many of you follow ‘Britballers’ on Instagram, but I just stumbled upon this post from a certain Nick Lewis yesterday:
“Game postponed due to risk of player safety”
NL: “*Riders safety”
“Did any of your players get hurt?”
NL: “No players got hurt.”
Just thought I’d stir the pot a little more

So does this set a precedence Any team has the right to challenge the facilities, and if at anytime during the game the team deem they are not happy with things they can unilaterally decide not to continue So challenging the refs to abandon the game and have it replayed plus all the surrounding spin offs of refunds etc Riders were the ones who insisted the court was washed twice The refs then passed the court fit to play on The riders then unilaterally decided they would not continue & forced the refs to abandon the game This could be a good tactic if losing now the precedence has been set As you're obviously aware, the issue that ultimately brought about this postponement was identified by everyone (not just Riders) hours before the game. It's not like we just glanced at the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter, saw that we were down 17 and tipped a bucket of water on the floor. I don't think a particularly dangerous precedent is being set here if we start again at 0-0. Any team that started randomly angling to get a game abandoned midway through an inevitable blowout defeat would, I'm sure, be treated with suspicion/laughed at. The precedent that I think this (and the Bucketgate game at Palace) should set moving forward is this... When a court is underwater/otherwise unfit for play a few hours before tip, we just knock the idea of playing basketball on the head right there and then. Delaying the tip off, attempting some half-baked mop up job then counting how many players fall over in the first quarter sounds like a brilliant strategy... Hard to find fault with it really. But it's been tested twice now in a relatively short space of time and the results have not been positive. All it's done on both occasions is waste people's time, jeopardise the safety of players and ultimately make the league look idiotic. Calling these games before they've begun also eliminates any possibility of the kind of controversy we have here where one team establishes a clear advantage during the minutes that were played and feels a sense of injustice when the right decision is eventually made. I hope none of the injuries sustained by our players in this were serious. Because if we did lose a key starter for any length of time we could well find ourselves out of the cup and all but eliminated from league contention within the next few weeks. A reinforcement or two is definitely needed regardless. Starting five's pretty good but the bench, outside of JWH, stinks.

Well that shouldn’t happen if true Perhaps the cleaner was wearing the wrong trousers...hard to do the job right if so. Shouldn’t happen in a professional league

So, gross stupidity or incompetence by Ponds Forge puts the Sharks in an impossible situation
But didn`t any of the Sharks management watch what was being done and check the effect on a small sample area before the whole floor was done ?
Or is that too much common sense ??

Or is that too much common sense ?? How often do you check something is being done correctly if you're used to it being done correctly every single time in the past? Say you hire a cleaner to clean your house and they always vacuum under the sofa... When they come in the new year for the first time are you gunna check under the sofa?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love the game to start as it finished at the end of 1st. Scores remaining as they were and I'm not expert, no where near. I tweeted Dan the man and he's no record of a game starting with the scores as they were. In fact a precident seems to have been set with the royals/riders game when they restarted nil nil. I would hope that at least the game will be played with the same players that were officially named to play in the original game. No come back from injuries etc, just the same players that started the game. Of course both would be great, but I realistically don't think that will happen.

I could be wrong here so don't shoot me but was not the worse of the injuries sustained a twisted ankle? By a player that returned to play minutes later, I'll take a stab at 4. I certainly didnt see many ice packs or walking wounded on crutches. And if the player did twist his ankle caused by a slip, how bad is it to put him back out there again? Surely more damage is going to be done. Not a lot of care there or looking after the safety of your players? I'm sure he'll be able to run it off for Friday. Well if he can go back on court I cant see any need to worry.

I believe Riders suffered 3 injuries. Only one of whom attempted to continue playing on the night?
The livestats have been taken away to be able to confirm. Anderson, Wright and Cartwright were the injuries named by Riders on Twitter. I think Cartwright attempted to continue?
Can I just confirm are the Sharks fans on here agreeing or disagreeing that the game was unsafe to play on the surface?

Without going into the merits of the decision to abandon or not, I absolutely guarantee all three will play in Riders next game.

Maybe they were already carrying injuries before the game

These clubs operate with such poor cash flow that they need that gate money to pay wages and bills. Cash is king. I hope not. In no way shape or form did those who attended this game get value for money. Basically just had their Sunday afternoon wasted. Seems a virtual certainty that some will not be able to make the rearranged date, whenever it happens to be. Also very possible that some will be put off by this experience and won't want to attend that or any other future Sharks fixture. I don't agree with the suggestion earlier in this thread that travel costs should be covered but offering ticket refunds to those that want them should be standard procedure here. Pretty much stealing people's money if you don't. I don't know whether there was a refund policy in effect for last season's Royals/Riders game. This isn't a club that's got a whole lot right since it's inception so possibly not. I was able to make the rearranged date when it was eventually announced so I never bothered to pursue one. But there were certainly less fans at the rearranged fixture than there had been for the original. I also recently went to a Championship football game that was postponed a few hours before kickoff due to a waterlogged pitch. I had no problem at all getting the money back for my ticket. Went to a T20 Blast game last season that was completely washed out. Same deal. Don't think I even needed to contact the club on that occasion. Refunds were issued automatically. Should be standard.

Mistakes can happen in any league, whether it’s the NBA or the BBL, that I fully understand. Here’s the but- The issue that I’ve personally got with this whole situation it’s just another incident in a long line of avoidable unprofessionalism in the BBL in recent seasons. It’s absolutely not possible to compare the NBA and the BBL in any way. This this situation (or one similar, or possibly more farcical) will happen again in the not too distant future in the BBL, whereas in the NBA it won’t, as there’s a lot more riding on it (plus they have the resources/ foresight to make sure it doesn’t happen again). Whether it be accepting franchises with no realistic long-term sustainability, hiring a head coach who’s clearly and obviously faked his CV, fielding illegible players, having a leaky roof or washing the floor with the wrong fluid which endangers players, this league just seems to churn out disappointment and embarrassment far too often. I’m not claiming to have the answer to any of these problems. I just know that they need to stop consistently happening (and soon) in order for British basketball to take the steps forward it needs to to progress properly in the future.

If I was one of the sharks fans the principle of them not offering refunds (far more than the money) would have upset me. It's cynical.

No abandoned football match I've been to - and I'm still pissed off with Kenny dalglish - has ever offered refunds. That's not to say if you couldn't make the rearranged game they wouldn't agree to exchanging the ticket for a different game.
Some of the ideas in this thread - forfeit, starting the rearranged game at restart of Q2, travel expenses for fans - are devoid of any sense of reality.

Office of Fair Trading believe any postponed match or performance with re-arranged date should allow purchaser to have a full refund of ticket price should they want one. As many have reasons they can't attend a re arranged game.
Purchasers make decisions to buy tickets very much dependant on dates. This refund protocol even applies to sports games re-arranged due to TV scheduling now.
With abandonments some events actually specify how much of the event needs to have taken place before purchasers waive the right for a refund. Theatre shows will normally refund if less than half the performance has taken place. Cricket matches more specific on number of overs bowled. Tennis on number of minutes played etc.
With a basketball game being abandoned with just one quarter played then it should definitely qualify for a refund IMO if the customer wants one. In this day and age. If you want any kind of goodwill from those attending. The fact this was by far the biggest crowd of the season for sharks shows the date was important for people to attend.
Most sports clubs get away with what they can get away with though. And sharks are getting away with what they can get away with for sure.
This wasn't even an act of God or an injury that fans can have sympathy with that led to the game finishing so early. It's just bad organisation and bad management.
